Some people will sign anything that includes phrases like, â€global effort,†“international community,†and “planetary.†Such was the case at COP 16, this year’s United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Cancun, Mexico.
This year, CFACT students created two mock-petitions to test U.N. Delegates. The first asked participants to help destabilize the United States economy, the second to ban water.
The first project, entitled “Petition to Set a Global Standardâ€Â sought to isolate and punish the United States of America for defying the international community, by refusing to bite, hook, line and sinker on the bait that is the Kyoto Protocol. The petition went so far as to encourage the United Nations to impose tariffs and trade restrictions on the U.S. in a scheme to destabilize the nation’s economy. Specifically, the scheme seeks to lower the U.S. GDP by 6% over a ten year period, unless the U.S. signs a U.N. treaty on global warming.
This would be an extremely radical move by the United Nations. Even so, radical left-wing environmentalists from around the world scrambled eagerly to sign.
The second project was as successful as the first. It was euphemistically entitled “Petition to Ban the Use of Dihydrogen Monoxide (DHMO)†(translation water). It was designed to show that if official U.N. delegates could be duped by college students into banning water, that they could essentially fall for anything, including pseudo-scientific studies which claim to show that global warming is man-caused.
HA HA HA.. Critical reading is a lost art. Don’t take a shower you might suffocate. This really made me laugh.
They will read it after it is passed. Nancy Pelosi must have headed up this meeting of “the minds.” Brain dead is the name for these parties.
Penn & Teller did this same gag at an Earth Day gathering years ago. :PROFANITY ALERT: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5329857034306331360# :PROFANITY ALERT: (Penn & Teller use a lot of F-bombs, definately rated R.)
Sorry, that video is awesome and is worth watching, but it is not the one I thought it was. Here is the gag. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yi3erdgVVTw :PROFANITY ALERT STILL APPLIES:
“A new NASA computer modeling effort has found that additional growth of plants and trees in a world with doubled atmospheric carbon dioxide levels would create a new negative feedback — a cooling effect — in the Earth’s climate system that could work to reduce future global warming.”
“Of those that have attempted to model this feedback, this new effort differs in that it incorporates a specific response in plants to higher atmospheric carbon dioxide levels. When there is more carbon dioxide available, plants are able to use less water yet maintain previous levels of photosynthesis. The process is called “down-regulation.” This more efficient use of water and nutrients has been observed in experimental studies and can ultimately lead to increased leaf growth. The ability to increase leaf growth due to changes in photosynthetic activity was also included in the model. The authors postulate that the greater leaf growth would increase evapotranspiration on a global scale and create an additional cooling effect.”
Of course there is the obligatory caveat:
“Bounoua stressed that while the model’s results showed a negative feedback, it is not a strong enough response to alter the global warming trend that is expected. In fact, the present work is an example of how, over time, scientists will create more sophisticated models that will chip away at the uncertainty range of climate change and allow more accurate projections of future climate.”
It does, however, go to illustrate a point I have been stressing since the beginning of time about computer models. Which is that we don’t now, or may never, know all of the factors that contribute to feedbacks, positive, or negative, to accurately predict the state of the climate at any future date, whether it be a year from now, or a hundred years from now.
I don’t understand this Anti-America attitude. I see it at the Climate circus, it comes out of our President, even the Wiki-Tiki leaks are aimed at the U.S. and the followers are hell bent that the downfall of America is a good thing. I don’t believe that kind of tripe would bring us down but just to see what they are writing is astounding. They don’t understand the golden egg story. It blows my mind how ignorant people can be.
Hal, you are right, it is ignorance. (They just don’t know.) Stupidity is another thing. That is our problem today.
Transparency is the fuel for real Democracy. And it isn’t “Anti-America” it is “We want what America is supposed to be, not a corrupt self-destroying empire.” Too deep or complex for ya? I guess so.
That is exactly what I want. Please load up all your friends (Al Gore, Michael Moore, Slick Willy……..) and move out so we can get rid of all the Corrupt idiots. Move to Iceland. There economy is hurting because there prime commodity is melting faster than they can mine for sale at your local convenience store. I am sure you guys could save them….. he he I am on a roll today….

How do you get that this is not anti-American? It is obviously opposed to America’s position on the Kyoto prtocols, which was made clear July 25th, 1997 when congress voted 95-0 (five Senators did not vote) against ratification.
So, the American position is against Kyoto, and these idiots were signing a petition to punish us for that position. That is BY DEFINITION anti-American. Do you misinterperate everything you hear?
Can I answer that for Rob? Yes Neil! He does. I am all for transparency of government, but I think a little secrecy is ok when it comes to things of a military nature. Also diplomacy needs a place for candor. This idea of penalizing America for it’s stand on Kyoto would actually end up hurting other countrys worse then the States. Eco-nutjobs are blinded by their own agenda!
Paranoid Birchers. Your analyses would sound great in the 10th grade. No, make that the 9th.
Umm, let’s see here. You make an argument bu throwing insults. And that is not grade school level thinking? Please explain.
Hood never fails us does he? I couldn’t expect less could I?
It is so funny that he calls us “Paranoid Birchers” when he espouses to some of the biggest conspiracy theories ever. He just makes me laugh every day. On my way home yesterday I was telling some of my business associates about old Rob here and how much i missed his comedic posts. Man does he make me Laugh!!!! and this new dude “V”…. Man is he out there. He seem book smart though and I hope he can bring a civil side to the discussion.
My deceased brother-law used to call them “educated idiots”. I quess he was spot on.
If so then you guys are the “useful idiots”. And sorry but many of your statements are paranoid and you do espouse many if not all Bircher views. Simple.
The old “no you are” argument. He is very funny when he gets spun up.
I am for civil discussion, as long as it is on topic. I won’t take him serious if he goes off on economic rants that faults the Bush family for Abu Dahbi’s 11 million dollar Christmas tree. Let’s try to speak to the subject and not use this forum for our personal pet peeves.
Really? The 11 million $ tree is off-limits?? You guys are no fun at all.
Hal, I agree. Just came off the big C surgery. The Scot comes out of me when I disagree.
I wish you well Paul!
Thanks Hal, 30 stitches out and back in the outdoors in three weeks. Tired of working virtual. Have clients to service.
Thank God for good health care…. eh? Imagine not having it….
The Cancun Climate Conferrence was an example of the usual sort of bargain: Developing countries have to sacrifice, too. But developed countries have, in this conference and at its predecessors, refused to make any real sacrifices. This round, it became clear that, in addition to the United States, other key countries, like Japan, would not be willing to commit to binding legal targets for carbon emissions.
Developed countries benefit, indirectly, from the proposed financial mechanism proposed to regulate carbon, Madeline Ostrader writes.
“Many of the proposals for financing and regulating climate are designed to earn profits for the same banks that brought the global economy to its knees,” she explains. “Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase have been vying for a stake in the global carbon offset trade—a proposed economic model for cutting emissions around the world.”
Gee, what a shock.
Dude… You just don’t get it do you. We as a developed country do not owe anything at all to underdeveloped countries when it comes to carbon emmisions. Japan gets it. China gets it. Most of Europe gets it. The Banks see the liberal push as a $$$$ making venture. OBTW how many ex officesers for thoes two CO’s are sittingin the present Administration. Yep you are correct too many.
That made me remember the discussion about bailing out the banks. Most conservitives rejected the Bank Bailouts and wanted to let them fail… Yes it would have hrt for a bit but it would also have made a vacume for more stable banks fill.
I too wanted the Banks to fail. So that is ANOTHER thing we have in common…! The bail-outs started wtih Bush, remember??? Obama continued them, that’s all. Which I disagreed with totally. (another example, as if we needed one, that there really is no significant difference between the two parties) And as I’ve said before I do not plan on voting for Obama again…got that? BUT I ALSO WILL NOT VOTE FOR A CRUMMY REPUBLICAN OR LIBERTARIAN EITHER.
Unless, they somehow stop being the corrupt douchebags they all are. I will NOT be holding by breath for that though!
I will admit that Bush folded and gave in to Congress as a lame duck president. The fact that McCain supported it bail outs killed his run.
I am glad you won’t vote for Obama again. That fact does not relieve you of the responsibility for voting for him last time. That is like I won’t ever run a stop light again so I should not have to pay for the damage cuased when I ran it the last time. Sorry just my view. I am also wondering why you keep blaming Bush for everything. I really dot think he was that great of a POTUS. But to blame him for the Spending that was passed and sent to him with out remembering who wrote them is unreasonable. So tell me Who is on your 2012 short list? I am looking at Chris Christie. He will probably say something stupid soon and kill his chances though.
Too funny. As if Obama has been even a small fraction as harmful as Bush was. Your culpability for THAT idiot’s mess will take a life time to fix, if ever. So save your condescension for some other sucker.
And as if you only stopped blaming Clinton just a couple years ago for everything bad. Right? Right.
No one I ever really like even gets close. That is why I have such a poor attitiude. In my nightmares Jeb Bush crawls out of the rotten woodwork….
As to you Rob N Steal, yes I have excellent healthcare until the new law kicks in. Then I may have to go to Cuba? Get a break you know nothing about healthcare the costs involved the malpractice insurance et al. My sister in law is a Doctor and the insurance to keep people like you from filing suit for no reason other than “settling” is killing her practice. You have no concept do you college boy. Wait until, your two alledged kids get sick and you wait for two weeks to get an appontment. It’s coming and you don’t even know it. When reality hits you will understand. Until then you are brain dead when it comes to reality.
You are one part arrogant and two parts condescending. As if I don’t know anything about healthcare… or actually maybe I know a lot about it. Worked in it for 8 years, that’s all. So once again you only prove you have no idea. It won’t be “Obama Care” that ruins healthcare, it is the for-profit system that has already ruined it. Competition and the profit motive works great for some things, but not for healthcare as we who use our entire brains knew a long time ago. And that is the reason I am against Obama’s HC plan. The only thing that will work is Single Payer, like all the other smarter and less-greed based countries in the world have.
Christie is an excellent choice. That said, he tells it the way he see’s it and the way we all believe a public servant should speak. Unfortunately in this mass media culture that we live in it may well be his downfall. Hope not.
I am with you.
I want to clarify. When I say “He will probably say something stupid soon” I don’t mean that it will be wrong or intellectually ignorant. I mean he will not temper his emotion and speak bluntly and give the left leaning mainstream media a stick to beat him with.
I agree. It’s not something stupid, he may state reality that the media will make to look/sound stupid and play it day after day. I, as well as everyone makes statements that though factual, may sound stupid when coming from my mouth. Just ask my wife! Trust me she would agree.
I am off to enjoy CHRISTmas. I wish you and yours well. See Ya next week.
Snap! Way to throw your religion around like that. He’d be proud’o’you!
Sir Knot states his true beliefs in christianity. You have a problem with that? No wonder we have a problem in our country! Hopefully not as bad as Europe and the Middle East. I assume you are an athiest. Figures.
Typical right-wing comeback in the form of attack. I don’t think Jesus wanted people to use Him as a way to promote onself in the eyes of others. Just sayin’.
Simply keep religion out of it. Climate change is natural. Period.
Now, you say that… and only to me I assume? Really? They call such an attitude as fasicst where I come from. Oh, unless you were asking your good buddy to do so too. That’d be different.
And where, “do you come from?” Give me, as others, a direct answer for which you are notorious for avoiding with posts that go on and on an on with no answer. We are definitely waiting. All of us on this site. We are all fascist where you “Come From?” Where is that? We are waiting. Give us a direct answer and cut to the chase. Sick of talking in circles.
Eco-wackos wont be happy until america has been reduced to a miserble 3rd world existance becuase their so bent out of shape by all this global warming bunk and all this eco-malarkey from AL GORE,GREENPEACE, and the other wackos
Heck yeah, that Al Gore and Greenpeace are so in control of this country!! … Hey wait a minute… no they aren’t. Hmmmm. Maybe some deeper thinking is needed.
Oh sorry Paul- you asked where I was from. Minnesota of course. Still here too. It wasn’t a secret- no asked me that before. Gosh Paul. I was just pointing out that you asking me not to do something but allowing your buddy to do it is a fairly rough example of what fascism is. Being authoritative, but not to the chosen ones, the ones toeing the line, the ones affiliated with the group. It’s also another example of hypocrisy. Just sayin’.
