John Holdren (President Obama's Science Czar) in 1971: “New ice age” likely

john-holdrenFrom Zomblog

In 1971, John Holdren edited and contributed an essay to a book entitled Global Ecology: Readings Toward a Rational Strategy for Man. He wrote (along with colleague Paul Ehrlich) the book’s sixth chapter, called “Overpopulation and the Potential for Ecocide.” (Click here to view a photograph of the table of contents, showing Holdren’s essay on pages 64-78; click on the image to the left to view the cover). In their chapter, Holdren and Ehrlich speculate about various environmental catastrophes, and on pages 76 and 77 Holdren the climate scientist speaks about the probable likelihood of a “new ice age” caused by human activity (air pollution, dust from farming, jet exhaust, desertification, etc).

John Holdren is now not only the “Science Czar” for the United States, but he’s also one of the original leaders of the “alarmist” wing of the Global Warming debate — and he now promotes the notion that the current climate data points to a looming planetary overheating catastrophe of unimaginable dimensions (he helped make the charts and graphs for Al Gore’s film An Inconvenient Truth, for example).

You know, it just occured to me that if you say the planet is going to cool, or that the planet is going to warm, you can’t be wrong either way because it warms and cools in a cyclical manner naturally!
What I just laugh at, and then sigh with incredulesness at, is when people make statements about what the climate is going to do. The truth is nobody knows for sure because our understanding of how the climate works is still in it’s…. well I was going to say infancy, but I don’t even think it’s even that far along. Our understanding of the climate system is more like in an embryonic stage of development. We really don’t know jack about how it all works. Yet we, as a nation, are going to commit economic suicide because idiots like this Holdren fool are running the show!

Yes, I agree- let’s keep trashing the environment, and not worry about the planet. I dont’ want to be bothered by these scary complicated things, I just want to be able to live life the way we Americans have always done- wantonly and wastefully- it’s the best way! So what if we have to have wars where our young soldiers have to die and get mained so we can have cheap oil- it’s a free country and nobody forced them, right? Plus it’s patriotic to die for your country. And who cares about the savages that die in the countries we invade? Too bad too sad!

You never give up Alinsky do you? Well trained Al Gore schill.

  7. Rob N. Hood October 4, 2009 at 3:50 pm #

Thanks to you I plan on reading Alinsky- I don’t believe I have done so, unless it was a long time ago and I don’t remeber. People like him are more truly “American” than your right-wing heros. It amazes me that people like you cannot see that. You really think all those right-wingers in power and politics have your best interests in mind. Foolish, very foolish.

  8. Paul Wenum October 4, 2009 at 7:15 pm #

Right wingers in power?? Obama, Polosie, Reid et al. Are you kidding me??? Go to bed.

  9. Rob N. Hood October 5, 2009 at 8:32 am #

Yes, they are actually conservative- if you weren’t so blinded by your biases you and other wingers would see it and admit it. They are now bought and paid for by the same people who bought out the Republican part a long time ago. The two party system is an illusion and dupes like you guys still can’t see it. But don’t feel bad, there are many many Democrats that can’t see it either. But over time some will wake up, and when they do they will be as sick about as I am. You are only angry about it all, but I’m sick about it. Democracy no longer exists here, and that is a very disturbing thing. People need to realize this or things will really get bad. AND you didn’t read my post very well. I SAID those wingers that you look to for guidance that have power DON’T have your best interests in mind- I didn’t say they were in power (use that brain!). And now, actually for some time now, the Democrats do not have my best interests in mind either. Believe me that is a bitter pill to swallow, but the sooner you use your brain and figure that out the better for all of us. An example: Clinton was in many many ways just as if not more conservative than Nixon (you would realize that if you could have seen beyond the theatrics and propganda while Clinton was in office). That demonstrates how far right this country has gradually moved. You and Neil really should be much happier. We have a country a lot more the way you want it than the way I want it. But you cannot see that, or you are confused about it, because THAT is reality. Please start using the brain God gave you, we need more rational people if democracy is going to be saved.

Your thoughts/statements are no longer wanted, Saul!!!

  11. Rob N. Hood October 6, 2009 at 8:13 am #

Really taking this discourse seriously as usual aren’t you my close-minded friend?

  12. Rob N. Hood October 6, 2009 at 3:59 pm #

My thoughts were never wanted Paul, who ya kidding?. That is why I’ve enjoyed scaring you right-wing heros with my scary Liberal (yet oddly fairly mainstream) views. It’s been sort of like messing with some Chimps at the zoo, and making them mad by teasing. But of course I have more respect for Chimps to really do that sort of thing.

  13. Paul Wenum October 6, 2009 at 10:00 pm #

My knuckles drag ever day on the way to “making a living.” How about yours???

  14. Rob N. Hood October 7, 2009 at 8:30 am #

Sorry, but if the shoe fits…. Do chimps wear shoes??

  15. paul wenum October 7, 2009 at 11:12 pm #

    I do, pair 10 1/2. Your point?

  16. paul wenum October 8, 2009 at 12:24 am #

Neil, I agree. Let’s get back on point. Guy’s like Rob are a distraction. Climate change occurs naturally. Back to “global cooling”

  17. Rob N. Hood October 9, 2009 at 8:13 am #

I was just wonderin’ is all. Thanks for clearing that up. Say, wouldn’t this site be boring without the token liberal commie to rile you wing nuts up? I mean come on, Dan could block me 100% if he wanted to. He likes me here. I’m creating hits (although granted it is pitiful that it is mostly us three…!) But really, without someone like me this would be a snooze-fest. Although I know you’d be much happier in your own little warm and cuddly right-wing cocoon.

Must say, it would be a pleasure to meet you and Neil. Now that would be like Gorbachev meeting Reagan in Rykovik!!
