Al Gore in 24-hour broadcast to convert climate skeptics

al-gore-bd-suitFormer Vice President Al Gore will renew his 30-year campaign to convince skeptics of the link between climate change and extreme weather events this week in a 24-hour global multi-media event.

From Reuters

“24 Hours of Reality” will broadcast a presentation by Al Gore every hour for 24 hours across 24 different time zones from Wednesday to Thursday, with the aim of convincing climate change deniers and driving action against global warming among households, schools and businesses. The campaign also asks people to hand over control of their social networking accounts on Facebook and Twitter to it for 24 hours to deliver Gore’s message.

“There will be 200 new slides arguing the connection between more extreme weather and climate change,” Trewin Restorick, chief executive of the event’s UK partner Global Action Plan, told Reuters on Monday.

“There will be a full-on assault on climate skeptics, exploring where they get their funding from.”

Well, this climate sceptic gets funding from one source. My job! You know, I really think it is a red herring to take the angle of “exploring where they get their funding from”. As though their source of funding makes what they say any less credible. Why shouldn’t oil and gas companies fund research? They do stand to lose a great deal if AGW proponents get their way. If you think about it the entire AGW movement has always had at it’s root the goal of destroying that industry. They should be denegrated for mounting a skillful defence? I don’t think so.
Aside from all of that I don’t need anyone to tell me that the IPCC was wrong in their (original) predictions. All you have to do is look at what they said would happen, and then look at what has happened and you will see that they were wrong. It’s no more complicated than that.
Of course they keep changing terminology, and their predictions to suit current conditions, but that will only fool so many people. People, like me, who actually pay attention to what they have said over the years are not fooled by them.

“….a full-on assault on climate skeptics, exploring where they get their funding from…”

As in the direct proof that he has yet to provide for the 15-20 year old guilt-by-association accusation? I’ll remind readers here that his and everybody else’s accusation has been one-and-the-same for this entire time, based on otherwise unseen evidence that when viewed in its complete context (it took me 7 months to find it), has every appearance of being unsupportable and out-of-context. Gore spokesperson ducks debate at last minute

A message from Steve Goreham, Executive Director, Climate Science Coalition of America (www.climatescienceamerica.org). The fact that Gore and his aides dodge debate like the plague speaks for itself. They know that their claims will not withstand critical scutiny and that any factual debate will be a disaster for them. Message below — JR

I had a climate change discussion set up tonight at 10 PM EST on Jim Bohannon radio with Maggie Fox, President of Al Gore’s “Climate Reality” initiative. I was looking forward to great fun in countering Ms. Fox’s alarmist assertions.

Unfortunately, but not unexpectedly, Ms. Fox just called and cancelled with Bohannon’s producer. She wanted a “free shot” and did not want any debate on the issue, and therefore withdrew.”

It is a wonder of American politics, this absolute and astonishing lack of shame on the part of the modern GOP. They have spent the last thirty years stifling a minimum-wage increase, they blocked legislation to help 9/11 responders pay for very present health concerns, and spent the latter part of this last week trying to screw disaster relief funding for people who lose homes to tornadoes, floods, wildfires and earthquakes. They deny climate change. They hate Social Security and Medicare down to their gold-plated bones. Now they are deliberately and intentionally stifling the very economy they themselves tore up, for no other reason than to win the next election.

How are they doing it? Money and power, power and money.

The other side of the coin.
