Michael Mann faces Bankruptcy as his Courtroom Climate Capers Collapse

Artist's depiction of climate "scientist" Dr. Michael MannBy John O’Sullivan

Massive counterclaims, in excess of $10 million, have just been filed against climate scientist Michael Mann after lawyers affirmed that the former golden boy of global warming alarmism had sensationally failed in his exasperating three-year bid to sue skeptic Canadian climatologist, Tim Ball. Door now wide open for criminal investigation into Climategate conspiracy.

Buoyed by Dr Ball’s successes, journalist and free-speech defender, Mark Steyn has promptly decided to likewise countersue Michael Mann for $10 million in response to a similar SLAPP suit filed by the litigious professor from Penn. State University against not just Steyn, but also the National Review, the Competitive Enterprise Institute and Rand Simberg. Ball’s countersuit against Mann seeks “exemplary and punitive damages”

Mann’s chief undoing in all such lawsuits is highlighted in a quote in Steyn’s latest counterclaim:

“Plaintiff continues to evade the one action that might definitively establish its [his science’s] respectability – by objecting, in the courts of Virginia, British Columbia and elsewhere, to the release of his research in this field. See Cuccinelli vs Rectors and Visitors of the University of Virginia…”

Wow! This is an amazing development. I feel a little sorry for Dr. Mann. Ok, I know, I’ve been bashing this guy for years. But I just can’t help but wince a little at his stunning loss. Kind of like watching a video of some skateboarder cracking his nads on a rail. I feel bad for the guy, but I think he was a fool to do it in the first place.
But Dr. Mann probably didn’t think there would be any chance of losing. He probably thought that right up to the point that the court asked for his data. Uh oh!
So in a nutshell, Dr. Ball said that Dr. Mann falsified tree ring data. Dr. Mann proceeded to sue Dr. Ball. The court asked to see the data from Dr. Mann’s tree ring study, and Dr. Mann failed to comply with the court request. So he lost.
So why didn’t Dr. Mann just give them the data? What’s he afraid of? He’s the one that brought the lawsuit, did he not foresee that the court would want to see the data that was challenged by Dr. Ball? Wouldn’t his lawyers have told him that the court would probably want to see the data? And if he knew they would want it, why proceed if he had no intention of turning the data over to the court? Is he that arrogant, or did he just believe the data would never be called upon?
Oooh! Put some ice on that Mann.

Neilio: “I feel a little sorry for Dr. Mann. Ok,”

I don’t feel one bit sorry for the mann. For decades GW Alarmists have been milking Taxpayers out of billions dollars.

Come on now, I don’t really feel bad for the guy. Did you read my entire post, or just the first line? Because I do go on to explain that it’s like watching someone hurt themselves doing something stupid. It’s the same feeling you get seeing someone get hit in the groin! I was just having a little fun, lighten up!

Perhaps Mann will now have to learn how to earn an honest salary. Or invent another ponzi scheme. .

Someone will keep him in cash. As long as he supports global warming alarmism, someone will see to it that he’s kept afloat. He won’t be fired from his job at Penn State, and someone will probably bankroll his legal fees like this Suzuki character. He is a symbol to the AGW movement they won’t let him take the hit, he’s covered.

Credit where it is due – it takes a person of phenomenal intellect to produce a scam that aspires to draw in 1 to 2% of the planets GDP. Its like a rejected script of a ‘B’ rated superman villain.

You forgot to mention the payoffs from Al Gore.

    • neilio March 7, 2014 at 8:51 pm #

Sure, Gore. Why not? If not him, then someone else who has profited highly from the scam. It would not surprise me if he plops a chunk of change in to the pot.

You haven’t even pointed to where it says that Ball has won his case. He hasn’t, and the rest of your post is a complete fabrication and lie.

It’s small wonder that Mann is winning round after round in these court cases, despite the difficulty of the case he has to make. Pathological liars do not do well in court, certainly not as well as they do amongst the gullible and corrupt climate change denial crowd.

This just bugs the heck out of me. How many times do I have to say it? NO ONE IS DENYING CLIMATE CHANGE!!!!!!!! It gets frustrating arguing with people like you because you don’t understand the simplest of concepts, or what certain words mean. The climate has been changing for 4 1/2 billion years, and will continue to do so long after the extinction of Man. No one even denies that there may be some effect due to contributions of CO2 to the atmosphere by humans. The whole argument is about IF the effect is going to be large, or small. And if the feedbacks from that effect are going to be positive or negative. That is what the whole debate is over. My personal belief, from years of doing my own research about anthropogenic global warming, is that there is an effect but it is so small that it is lost in the noise of natural variation. In other words, the effect is so small that we can’t measure it. And foolish, brain dead, know-nothing morons, not unlike how I imagine you to be, are always saying we’re climate change deniers. And it’s all from the propaganda that you are spoon fed by politicians, the media, and the UN. Does it mean nothing to you that there has been no warming for 17+ years? It should. The fact that it doesn’t is a prime example of how successful the propaganda is. What flavor is that Kool-ade chum………..p?
