Car Company Gets U.S. Loan, Builds Cars In Finland

fisker_karmaBy Matthew Mosk and Ronnie Greene

With the approval of the Obama administration, an electric car company that received a $529 million federal government loan guarantee is assembling its first line of cars in Finland, saying it could not find a facility in the United States capable of doing the work.

Vice President Joseph Biden heralded the Energy Department’s $529 million loan to the start-up electric car company called Fisker as a bright new path to thousands of American manufacturing jobs. But two years after the loan was announced, the job of assembling the flashy electric Fisker Karma sports car has been outsourced to Finland.

How much you wanna bet that this car will not be successful? In fact I bet this company will go broke just like Solyndra. Electric cars are not the future. And the reason they are not is because of the same reasons that existed long ago when electric cars first came out. The main problem being range. It will take many, many years before there will be a sufficient battery to provide the kind of range that you can easily get from internal combustion engines. It is also a fact that there is no relative reduction in energy usage from electric cars, there is just a shift in power source. Some people are going to buy these cars, and they will soon realize that their electricity bill is going to be outrageous (like it isn’t already). The energy has to be produced somewhere, and I submit that wind, solar, and biofuels alone are not enough to provide for the demand, and never will be.

Neil, I totally agree. They will fade like the evening sun as well as others. Should we stop looking at options. Absolutely not. There is a better way. Some entrepeneur will someday come up with the answer that is wanted by the public and can be self sustaining/profitable absent a subsidy which is usually the death nail in their coffin.

    • NEIL F. AGWD/BSD October 23, 2011 at 9:24 pm #

Of course we should continue to look for options. I never said we shouldn’t. But that is a good point because our Left of Obama friend RNH would say that we are against progress and afraid of change. But the environmenleftists seem to have settled on wind, solar, and biofuels to be the next great thing and it has never even come close to providing the country with the kind of energy it needs to sustain itself at current power consumption levels, not to mention any growth.
I would welcome with open arms an energy source that was abundant and clean, but so far the environmenleftits are trying to push energy sources that are clean, but do not provide the energy levels required for a growing nation. And unless some breakthrough occurs, it never will, unless we want to blanket the entire country with solar panels, and wind turbines.

Neil, you and I are in total accord. Alternatives will someday be forthcoming. In our lifetime? Possibly? Ethanol, wind, et al? No! It’s funny, biofuels come from grass, corn etc. that decomposes which ends up as what? You know the answer. Enough said.

  4. Rob N. Hood October 26, 2011 at 5:11 pm #

Wrong Neil- first you would have to recognize progress to be against it.

    • NEIL F. AGWD/BSD October 27, 2011 at 8:09 am #

I have no idea what you mean by this comment. Is giving money to a car maker to build a car in Finland progress for America? If it is, you’re right, I don’t recognize it.

  5. Joe October 26, 2011 at 9:46 pm #

How much does it costs to extract the ingredients from the earth for a lithium battery along with shipping, damaging the ecocology as well as replacemrnt costs if they go bad? Tell me all knowing one Mister Hood. What is the exact cost to the consumer being you and I???

  6. Rob N. Hood October 27, 2011 at 4:28 pm #

And you say MY comment makes no sense? Sheesh.

    • NEIL F. AGWD/BSD October 28, 2011 at 5:16 pm #

I understand Joe’s comment perfectly. So he’s not the worlds greatest typer, or speller, neither am I, but your comment still doesn’t make any sense at all.

  7. Joe October 29, 2011 at 12:32 am #

So I have no spell check. But I have a brain. Hood! Answer the question raised. “Sheesh” is not a word. Check spell check!!!!!

  8. Rob N. Hood October 29, 2011 at 7:08 am #

Sheesh, Joe, take a pill. Joe’s little rant kind of made some sense until he added, “what is the cost to the consumer, being you and I”. If anyone needs to clarify and explain it is those who communicate in such a way as that. So be my guest Joe, take a bit of your own worn-out advice and expalin yourself. Or not.

  9. Rob N. Hood October 29, 2011 at 7:11 am #

And BTW my comment about being able to recognize something to be against it (or for it for that matter) makes an immense amount of sense, to be sublime even. Just sayin’. If you cannot understand that, then go to college for a couple of years or so. Or maybe finish high school first… Or just use the brain God gave you.

    • NEIL F. AGWD/BSD October 29, 2011 at 4:44 pm #

Well, would I not be against it if I did not recognize it as progress? Your statement does not make sense because to recognize something is: To perceive or show acceptance of the validity or reality of, or: To show awareness of; approve of or appreciate. None of which I do. I think the breakdown here is that you use a word that you think you know the meaning of, but it actually means something slightly different than what you thought. Perhaps the value of your college education is not as great as you percieve, especially since you seem to have no idea what the particular meanings of some of the words you use are. And then you berate me for not understanding you? Get a freakin dictionary.

  10. Rob N. Hood October 30, 2011 at 12:39 pm #

Aww gosh Neil, I guess your intellectualism has been proven once again, based upon a dictionary definition, emphasis in part, provided by you, in defense of something as ordinary as the commom meaning of a rather simple word. You should have been a lawyer, and parsed up words like they sometimes do, to win at all cost (not unlike Bill Clinton, eh?) Is it clever or unique? Not really. Do you miss the trees for the woods? Yes. As usual, and to your own satisfaction.

    • NEIL F. AGWD/BSD November 1, 2011 at 6:33 pm #

Exuse me for being a literalist! Why would you use Bill Clinton as a comparison? He tried to make a word mean something it did not, I am just pointing out what a word does mean.

  11. Joe October 31, 2011 at 8:42 pm #

Bottom line. Why are they paying “Finns” to produce cars instead of America? Huh, Robbie Boy??? Answer the question “College Boy.” You seem to have all the answers, if not ask yourself, I assume you will agree. Let me and others know. We are impatiently awaiting your diatribe going forward aren’t we? Waiting.

  12. Rob N. Hood November 3, 2011 at 6:14 pm #

Oh, right I forgot. The great and powerful Neil would never make any mistake least of which involves anything whatsoever involving the definition of a word, etc. blah blah blah.

And once AGAIN Joe I did answer your rude question previously and again I am sorry I cannot draw nice pictures to help you out. MANY MANY jobs (mostly the good ones) have been outsourced for MANY MANY years now- to the BENEFIT of large multi-national corporations, aided and betted by our duly elected public “servants”. And no one, Repub or Dem, seems to care, except how to do it all faster.

Oh and so sorry for the diatribe. Seems any answer I provide is either invisible or a diatribe, or a rant, or …. blah blah blah. Gee you are boring me to death.

  13. Joe November 3, 2011 at 10:32 pm #

Look up rant in the dictionary. The Dems approved the action, not the Repubs! Now that is a FACT! Why is Obama being investigated for his “Green” initiative that has failed for three years backed by his “bundlers”????? Lobbyists!!! Let’s play with words. Try me.

  14. Rob N. Hood November 4, 2011 at 6:55 pm #

Poor Joe. Your word-play is hampered by lack of logic, first of all. Beyond that I cannot even guess. Perhaps it is you, my inarticulate and incomprehending comrade, who should look up the word rant, and other words too, just for future use. Logic would be a good second word to study for awhile.

  15. Joe November 6, 2011 at 11:25 pm #

You love the words rant, especially the word “logic,” et al.. Cut to the chase and tell us all your true thoughts other than using a script.. It would be nice for a change.

  16. Rob N. Hood November 8, 2011 at 5:30 pm #

Rant, i.e. a word used by OTHERS to describe my postings. Logic: a word to describe virtually the opposite of all (i.e. ALL) of the other postings on this site…

  17. Joe November 8, 2011 at 10:09 pm #

Nice Script. Very well versed with numerous meanings. Tell me more. We are all interested in your “deep thought.”

  18. Rob N. Hood November 9, 2011 at 6:47 pm #

Really Joe? That’s a “response,” a “retort,” a “contribution”? What are you doing here again? Please enlighten us, oh wise sage.

  19. Joe November 13, 2011 at 10:59 pm #

Countering your B.S. Pure and simple.

  20. Rob N. Hood November 15, 2011 at 5:39 pm #

Oh…!!! So If I stop…. you will stop. I see….. wow thanks for clearing that up. The following is a compliment to Neil. Other than Neil… poking monkeys with a stick in their cages is fun only so long…

  21. Joe November 16, 2011 at 10:40 pm #

Never stop. Like the Energizer Bunny when someone like you consistently makes false statements and demonizes others which I sense you actually enjoy making hurtful comments don’t you.

  22. Rob N. Hood November 17, 2011 at 6:11 pm #

….. um….. just waiting…… um…. for you….. to… you know……. stop….. and where is that pesky Neil when you need him????!!!!

  23. Rob N. Hood November 18, 2011 at 5:44 pm #

playing hard to get… how cute

  24. Joe November 18, 2011 at 10:48 pm #

My posting friend is black and you take light of that. You are a racist correct? You enjoy knocking blacks calling the “Black” Joe????

  25. Rob N. Hood November 19, 2011 at 8:46 am #

Very clever uncovering me as a Liberal racist. Bravo! You should work for the CIA.

  26. Rob N. Hood November 19, 2011 at 8:47 am #

    BTW seek professional help.

  27. Joe November 20, 2011 at 10:53 pm #

    You never know do you.

  28. Joe November 21, 2011 at 11:03 pm #

I sought help at the DNC and they could not help me. They said I was to consevative, i.e. NORMAL!

  29. Rob N. Hood December 1, 2011 at 6:37 pm #

The DNC is fairly conservative- so I’m not surprised.

  30. Joe December 2, 2011 at 11:01 pm #

Then they need some serious help don’t they. Recommend a conservative President that represents “the people.” Obviously not the one we have.

  31. Rob N. Hood December 7, 2011 at 10:42 am #

I would GLADLY, no JOYOUSLY, accept ANY President that represented the “people”!!!!! Tragically, neither party has nor will, unless SERIOUS institutional changes are made to our political system starting with campaign reform. Your hope and/or belief in anything occurring differently without serious reform is completely irrational and even infantile.

  32. Rob N. Hood December 14, 2011 at 4:07 pm #

and…. um…. it was a conservative President that got us into this mess in the first place. And those same policies continue under a “Liberal Socialist” President. Why can you not see that the “conservative” or neo-con or neo-Liberal policies have not changed since the Reagan Revolution, and that is why we are suffering, and in a mess. It is an elitist game, they profit mightily by it and only a global melt-down will stop them. And sadly for everyone, including many of them, that will occur, eventually. Unless, we the people, rise up and take control BACK.

  33. joe December 15, 2011 at 11:45 pm #

“Car company gets loan to build cars in Finland” was the post. What has that got to do with Bush? Typical.
