'Hockey Stick' Graph was Exaggerated

Professor David Hand said that the research – led by US scientist Michael Mann – would have shown less dramatic results if more reliable techniques had been used to analyse the data.

Prof Hand was among a group of experts charged with investigating the “climategate” email scandal that engulfed the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) last year.

Sceptics claimed that the hacked messages showed scientists were manipulating data to support a theory of man-made global warming.

However the review, led by Lord Oxburgh into the research carried out by the centre, found no evidence of ”deliberate scientific malpractice”.

Lord Oxburgh said the scientists at the research unit arrived at their conclusions ”honestly and sensibly”.

But the reviewers found that the scientists could have used better statistical methods in analysing some of their data, although it was unlikely to have made much difference to their results.

That was not the case with some previous climate change reports, where “inappropriate methods” had exaggerated the global warming phenomenon.

Prof Hand singled out a 1998 paper by Prof Mann of Pennsylvania State University, a constant target for climate change sceptics, as an example of this.

Lot of money is involved and they never will let down the “scientist” who gave them such fortunes. The corruption is the key word of the left all over the world.
It is nothing new, it will never be.

Yes, you are onto us. We have taken over the world with our Leftist tactics and you will all be “our” slaves. Hogwash.

Well Rob, no so fast, first you most to take away my weapons, or to know how to use them better. Afraid, in such a lovely country as USA you should. Be ready Napolitano

Enter the Obama Administration, facing a national debt of ten trillion dollars (about 80% of the U.S. gross domestic product), a federal budget deficit of one and a half trillion, and a growing roster of homeless, foreclosed, unemployed, uninsured citizens.

Meanwhile, the oligarchs are sitting pretty. Over the past thirty years, as the average income of the bottom half of the population has grown a mere six percent, the income of the top one percent has more than tripled, the greatest income gap since 1928, the year before the onset of the great depression. And the typical CEO of a Fortune 500 company earns in half a day more than the median employee of the corporation earns in a year.

The kleptocrats’ personal wealth, much of which is deposited in offshore banks or invested in multi-national corporations, is of little use in the oncoming struggle to repair and restore our national economy. The national wealth thrown at the rich by Ronald Reagan and by the Bush’s did not, as promised, “trickle down” to the rest of us. Instead, it “leaked out” of the national economy, along with the manufacturing base.

      Stoking the class envy coals there Rob? Or should I call you Ernest? As in Ernest Partrige……. the author of your post. Oh and it was posted where? http://www.crisispapers.org/essays9p/money.htm The crisis papers. That definatelty is not a right wing think tank, in fact it says;
“Political Opinion and Commentary for the Progressive Internet”. Hmm…….
So again we have our dear friend Rob here posting socialist propaganda, without presenting it as such, and trying to pass it off as fact. It’s almost as if he does not want us to know where it came from. Why is that Rob? Why are you trying to hide your sources? Can you not come up with your own arguments? And don’t even try to tell us this is even remotely relevent to the hocky stick graph being a fake. Not even close dude.
So really, why are you here? What is your objective? Are you trying to persuade us into your way of thinking? Not gonna happ’n.

      • Rob N. Hood April 17, 2010 at 1:09 pm #

Class envy? I wish it was that simple. It’s class war, and you and yours are 100 feet deep inside your own idealistic bunkers drinking kool-aid, watching Fox “news” and not having a clue to what happening on the surface.

  6. Rob N. Hood April 16, 2010 at 9:55 am #

Was that a threat Cuban? Funny how your english writing skills are better at times more than others. Dan do you condone threats on this site???!!!

  7. Dan April 16, 2010 at 9:58 am #

    I didn’t take that as a threat.

  8. Neil F. AGWD/BSD April 16, 2010 at 8:16 pm #

I don’t even know how the hocky stick graph gained any credibility to begin with. I knew it was bogus the first time I saw it. It was published in the IPPC’s 4AR and it became gospel to the AGW’ers, and was held up as a smoking gun. Well it was fake smoke.

    • Neil F. AGWD/BSD April 17, 2010 at 12:01 pm #

I meant IPCC I don’t know what the IPPC is, sorry…….

Truth is a “theat” to most left wing liberals. Unfortunate but a fact. Never changes with Alinski tactics. That’s all it is. Sad but true.

  10. cubanshamoo April 17, 2010 at 1:30 am #

Treat????, Rob, you have no sense of reality, you promise we will be your slaves and now you feel afraid of a comment that tells you that your country is not so easy to enslave as you will like. That’s the last attention I pay to your BS posts. F.S.O.B.

  11. Rob N. Hood April 17, 2010 at 1:06 pm #

“first you most to take away my weapons, or to know how to use them better. Afraid, in such a lovely country as USA you should. Be ready”

Albeit, “Cuban” cannot or chooses at times, to not write english very well, but this quote seems pretty clear to me. And that isn’t a threat or even threat-like to any of you?? Really? What PLANET are you “humans” on?????????????????????????????????

    Wow Here’s most people’s reality……………* and here’s all of your’s……………………………………………………………… wait for it…….

Robbie Boy, let me see you type in spanish. It would do wonders for my soul as well as cubanshammo. If you are up to the task I assume that you will cut and paste? Go for it. Cubanshammo as well as I are waiting.

  13. Rob N. Hood April 18, 2010 at 2:26 pm #

Ooooh , golly gee. In case you didn’t really read what I wrote or comprehend it (Paul and cuban cigar) My comment was that sometimes Cubans english is flawless and other times he can’t even tell the difference between threat and treat……?! THAT gentleman was my POINT. I was not berating him for his bad english. BUT I WAS QUESTIONING HIS HUMANITY…. yes indeed.

Anything else is all in your small self-absorbed imaginations.

  14. paul wenum April 18, 2010 at 9:24 pm #

Have you ever had an interpreter? I think your comments need a professional. Yes, I guess we have “small self-absorbed imaginations.” Imagining America with little debt, freedom of choice in our endeavors, equal taxation, et al. Yes, we have “imaginations!

  15. Cubanshamoo April 19, 2010 at 1:30 am #

Ohhh Ruber Robby, I miss a “h”, and you add a “s”. There is only one Cuban in this forum. But in case you didn’t get it I wasn’t threating you, however you need that a headshrinker treat you. From another side, I could also make some copy and paste, but despite my bad English I prefer to stay a bit more original than you. That’s why.
Dan, thanks for editing my Spanish comment. Sometimes I feel the need of expressing myself without correctness.

  16. Cubanshamoo April 19, 2010 at 5:18 am #

Paul, Dan, Neil, I thanks you all for your help, because you know that I make an effort while writting English. And I make that effort with lot of pleasure because it is great that somebody that have been in USA only for short visits can tell to a North American guy like Rob that the town have houses, even if he can’t see any. I is really sad to see how many guys like Rob do not prize and defend what they have, including the honor of being one of the more advanced countries in the world concerning nature’s protection.

  17. Rob N. Hood April 19, 2010 at 3:53 pm #

So do you have someone helping you on occasion if in fact you don’t cut and paste? Because some of your posts use flawless English. That’s all I was asking.

And just so you know, you did obviously and intentionally use threatening language in that one post. And even though these jugheads around here think it’s ok, I don’t. Don’t wimp-out and hide behind your non-American-ness as an excuse either. Very lame.

  18. paul wenum April 19, 2010 at 6:35 pm #

Rob, you make comments that anyone would question with a quizzical look. ????

    • Rob N. Hood April 20, 2010 at 7:12 am #

Only you Paul….. and our odd friend The Cuban…..oh and our own private Wikipedia, Mr. Neil Encyclopedia.

  19. Cubanshamoo April 20, 2010 at 12:04 am #

Oh yes Rob, sometimes they write my posts in order you could understand them, but even like that, you can’t. I feel sad for you Rob, you are the kind of person who see long shadows at noon…. and continue being afraid of me… buuuuuh…. I will not let that you enslave me! No chance.

  20. Rob N. Hood April 20, 2010 at 7:09 am #

I didn’t say I was afraid of you… can’t you read English either?

  21. paul wenum April 20, 2010 at 9:48 pm #

Rob, don’t you ever feel “boxed in.”? Just curious.

  22. Rob N. Hood April 21, 2010 at 7:53 am #

Surrounded by useful idiots you mean? Yes, sometimes.

  23. paul wenum April 21, 2010 at 10:13 pm #

An”Idiot” sometimes turns into a “genius.” My father was an idiot until I finally understood. That, by the way was 1966. Damn, he was a smart man, but he was an “idiot” until I left home and had to make my way in life. Interesting how life’s path’s change people’s perspectives isn’t it? Take care.

  24. Cubanshamoo April 22, 2010 at 12:55 am #

    I must laugh

  25. paul wenum April 22, 2010 at 9:19 pm #

Cubanshamoo, do you know exactly what I said? Most younger people don’t.

  26. Cubanshamoo April 23, 2010 at 12:49 am #

Of course I understand you Paul, it happened to me with my dad as well. I was lughing about the comments of Rob, because it is the opposite of my Dad: a guy who believe is a genius and….

  27. Rob N. Hood April 24, 2010 at 4:12 pm #

So you ended up thinking exactly like the men who raised you…

And that is somehow intelligent, or an unconditionally good thing? Other than being very typical and showing a lack of independent thought on your parts, there is absolutely nothing unusual about that.

  28. paul wenum April 24, 2010 at 7:37 pm #

Rob, you still don’t get it do you. They taught us how to think for ourselves and take the consequences thereafter. Right, wrong or indifferent. We were taught to be accountable for our actions, not others and always be true in what we do. Finally, we were taught to work and work hard and not live off other people efforts. Something that seems to be lacjing in today’s entitlement society. JFK said it well and I assume you know what JFK said? It’s still true today.

  29. Rob N. Hood April 25, 2010 at 3:29 pm #

People in this country on average work harder than most, and it’s been that way for a long t ime now.

That, then, DOES NOT make us an “entitlement” country. It never was one. Plus that term doesn’t even have any real meaning beyond being a nice easy catch-phrase.

That’s sooo 80’s. You Wingers need new material.

  30. paul wenum April 25, 2010 at 11:58 pm #

OK Welfare. Free Money, Free Housing, Free Healthcare, Free, Free, Free. Do you understand or is your brain like a BB in a Boxcar???

  31. Rob N. Hood April 26, 2010 at 9:35 am #

I don’t know of any of the above occurring at this time- do you? Nor do I see people or any politician asking for it. Even Obama took single-payer helath care off the table- which wouldn’t be Free either because Most people pay taxes, except for the very poor, plus there would be co-payments probably etc.

You rightys have no real imagination for a better world. Just your old broken down philosophies. Sad, very sad.

  32. paul wenum April 26, 2010 at 9:37 pm #

You have no understanding of life my friend. Entitled you are entitled you will be. You will never change. If you are a reflection of the new society, I feel extremely sorry for my daughters an their future families going forward. Now that is very sad indeed.

  33. Cubanshamoo April 27, 2010 at 4:39 am #

I grew up in a socialist country and the first thing I did was to behave and act like my friends at the school (all united under the Union of Comunist Youth), but my father always told me that where everybody think the same, no body think at all. I din’t believe him at that time. Then, I meet liberty for the first time at 31, I worked in roads, distributing beer in trucks, and study extremely hard all the time. I worked even during the week-ends and never envy the other’s wealth, today I work in my field at a University and own (since one week) a huge piece of natural forest in your lovely country, and I will continue working hard to own more land there. Then, I will move to USA and join people like Paul to make that country better with our votes, but with my own way to think about what is the best for this lovely lady called Freedom.

    • Rob N. Hood April 27, 2010 at 9:03 am #

Your idea of “freedom” is not the same as mine. I believe mine is much closer to true freedom, than yours is. Paul keeps crying about the future- this country is already very right-wing and has been for decades, maybe even since it’s inception (I bleieve that too) and yet you still aren’t happy. Your kind is helping push this country further and further to the Right. We’ve became blatantly fascist with Bush II and the fact that you cannot see that is VERY disturbing. It is your kind who ruined any chance for any kind of real “freedom” for this country. We are too far gone, and yes you will see the demise of what most people imagined this country to be, but it won’t be any kind of Liberal policies that did that. Just the opposite. That is why I say you are brainwashed- you see the world in many instances as the exact opposite of what is real reality.

It is very difficult to defend oneself with such people. The big money elite own the MSM and use it very effectively. Before that our schools were used very effectively, and still do- more for the benefit of the right-wing, not the left so much. It is very subtle- which is always the best propaganda. Difficult to detect, unless your eyes and ears have been opened.

  34. paul wenum April 27, 2010 at 10:01 pm #

Freedom to one person is different than for another. Freedom for Cubanshammo from what I understand is the freedom from oppression, no questions asked or there were consequences to bear. As to American’s? We are losing our freedoms that Cubanshammo dreamed for as a child as well as his family going forward. Forget MSM, the Right, Left etc. The bottom line. We are slowing losing the freedoms that we fought for over 200 years ago. The sad part is, nobody will acknowledge it until it hits you head on and your entire life is affected. Only then will America wake up. Hate to say it, but unless things change, our economy, lifestyle will change to the point that we may as well move to Cuba. Maybe we would be better off? By the way, Cubanshammo, that’s worst case scenerio! I know there will be a caustic response forthcoming. Bring it on!

    • Rob N. Hood April 30, 2010 at 3:08 pm #

My reply is for you to read the above post again…

  35. Cubanshamoo April 28, 2010 at 12:25 am #

Paul, he is unable to understand us. He didn’t understand me because he has no idea of where I came from. He never spend time in Cuba (I could say, North Corea, or Hungary, or the actual Venezuela) so, as far he will never confront that “reality”, which is in fact subrealistic, he will accuse me to be fascist and whatever he likes. I also asume he do not understand you, because he was never even crossing your steps in life: that is to say, Rob is just waiting for the state to feed his stomach and telling him what he need to do, to read, to write, and to think. It is a never ending discussion, except if he take advantage of the following posibility: to travel to Cuba and stay there for one year, just one year, meeting the ordinary people, smelling the injustices and testing then in his own skin.
If he find the courage to do so, I can guarantee you, Rob will turn into Republican, another Freedom lover, another man with his foots on earth.
And Rob, trust me just this: I could tell you so many dirty histories of my country that if you just believe me the 10%, you will give a friendly hug to all CIA members you fing in your way. They are ANGELS

      Gag reflex …

  36. paul wenum April 28, 2010 at 6:50 pm #

Cubanshammo you said it well. Proud that you have your freedom my friend. In America the majority of the people, in my opinion, don’t realize how nice they have it until their “freedom” is gone. Hopefully it never happens, but you never know with the changing society we have. Now, Back to defeating Cap N Trade! The death knell to America in my humble opinion.

  37. Rob N. Hood April 30, 2010 at 3:09 pm #

    You guys are subrealistic…

The death knell has already been ringing, you just can’t hear it, yet.

  38. paul wenum May 2, 2010 at 10:58 pm #

It’s ringing loud and clear. A liberal has a hard time hearing. Is that a freight train coming or is it a good light at the end of the tunnel? I suspect a freight train? Hopefully not. We shall see won’t we? Time will tell.

  39. Rob N. Hood May 4, 2010 at 7:26 am #

A freight train. Very apt, because it extends ALL the way back to Nixon basically. It’s not a left or right thing anymore though. AND THAT IS THE LESSON YOU ALL NEED TO LEARN, AND FAST.

  40. paul wenum May 4, 2010 at 10:51 pm #

The train has already left the station with no conductor. Like a symphony. All noise and no real music absent a leader.
