Rise of sea levels is ‘the greatest lie ever told’

By Christopher Booker, telegraph.co.uk

The uncompromising verdict of Dr Mörner is that all this talk about the sea rising is nothing but a colossal scare story, writes Christopher Booker.

If one thing more than any other is used to justify proposals that the world must spend tens of trillions of dollars on combating global warming, it is the belief that we face a disastrous rise in sea levels. The Antarctic and Greenland ice caps will melt, we are told, warming oceans will expand, and the result will be catastrophe.

Although the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) only predicts a sea level rise of 59cm (17 inches) by 2100, Al Gore in his Oscar-winning film An Inconvenient Truth went much further, talking of 20 feet, and showing computer graphics of cities such as Shanghai and San Francisco half under water. We all know the graphic showing central London in similar plight. As for tiny island nations such as the Maldives and Tuvalu, as Prince Charles likes to tell us and the Archbishop of Canterbury was again parroting last week, they are due to vanish.

But if there is one scientist who knows more about sea levels than anyone else in the world it is the Swedish geologist and physicist Nils-Axel Mörner, formerly chairman of the INQUA International Commission on Sea Level Change. And the uncompromising verdict of Dr Mörner, who for 35 years has been using every known scientific method to study sea levels all over the globe, is that all this talk about the sea rising is nothing but a colossal scare story.

Despite fluctuations down as well as up, “the sea is not rising,” he says. “It hasn’t risen in 50 years.” If there is any rise this century it will “not be more than 10cm (four inches), with an uncertainty of plus or minus 10cm”. And quite apart from examining the hard evidence, he says, the elementary laws of physics (latent heat needed to melt ice) tell us that the apocalypse conjured up by
Al Gore and Co could not possibly come about.

The reason why Dr Mörner, formerly a Stockholm professor, is so certain that these claims about sea level rise are 100 per cent wrong is that they are all based on computer model predictions, whereas his findings are based on “going into the field to observe what is actually happening in the real world”.

Sorry hadn’t seen your comment when I made mine.

Good to see others awake to the truth though

      Keep speaking out.

Not to jump on the Nazi train here because I have a bit more sense than that, but a large portion of the history that’s taught about the Holocaust is in fact not credible.

LIAR… For 35 years I’ve stayed at the same condo in Kihei on Maui. The first floor of the building is about five feet above sea level and forty yards from the beach. After 35 years it’s still five feet above sea level and forty yards from the beach.

I have property on the Gulf Coast, NOTHING has changed in forty years.

Been in Hawaii for almost 50 years…shoreline still pretty much where it’s always been. • Henry Mason

Fluctuations are key here but for a permanent rise is bogus. If you had read the article you wouldn’t have even asked the question.

I haven’t heard anyone outside of the scientific stool samples that say the sea level is rising.

I’m more leaning to trust someone out in the field actually doing the work than I am some lazy inventor who created a model to prove their theory of sea level rising. Which by the way a model came be faked.

Actual data and eyewitness proof can’t unless they just want to lie about it like those who create these models to support their claims.

You people are fools for buying into this global/warming/climate change BS.

You do realize that all this climate change/ shift is nothing but a ploy for idiots to make laws to take money from you unjustly right?

Then again maybe I give people like you too much credit and maybe you really do need someone to lead you around by the ring in your nose.

    • jburr36

the sea levels are not rising. The islands are sinking into a subduction zone

Now come one, the holohoax is the greatest lie ever told and there are plenty of bigger lies than this one besides that.

  • Occams

I hate to break this to you all, since they’ve reduced this to a political party view – not one of reality – but I LIVE on the beach in La Jolla, CA, and was born here. I am also a surfer, and we have a surfspot that has a visible rock that helps me decide the tide-height, as to what spot might be best.

I see the ocean several times a day.

This rock USED to be covered ONLY by the very highest tides of the year. All other high tides left about 6-12″ of flat surface visible.

    Now?

Virtually EVERY normal high tide completely covers this rock, and no, it’s not shrinking from the base. The water lever is rising.

Since I’m not stupid enough to be a ‘conservative’ nor a ‘liberal’, I simply use my brains, my eyes, and my life-long experience.

    It IS rising.

    • n’awlins

Good on ya. Not much surf down here in NO, so I have to windsurf instead. I have a lot of contacts with marine outfits working in the SP. Direct observation is the only thing I trust, and the locals down there are screaming bloody murder, and rightly so.
Just because some slick operator is making money off the crisis doesn’t mean it’s not actually happening.
No one has to tell me about the dangers of high water, I lived through Katrina. I have photos (not to mention stories) that would make your hair turn gray overnight.

      • Occams

        Cheers, mate.

It IS what it IS. Lived on the coast all my life, and I KNOW San Diego is experiencing waaaay hotter weather and much more humidity than we’ve EVER seen.

It IS changing, but they reduced ‘global warming’ to a Democrat or Republican argument – AGAIN dividing the people (so ‘they’ get away with murder), NOT on reality, but by some stupid fucking crooked party ‘telling you’?

Walk outside. IT’S CHANGING. Many are seeing huge ‘colds’, while others are baking. I was in Europe, and everyone says “hottest ever” – and predicted HOTTER next year.

I find it hard to believe that 7+ billion people and 700 million cars “can’t have a thing to do with it”….

It’s REAL, and it’s HAPPENING. You and I do NOT need crooked politicians telling us ‘it is or ain’t.’

        • nick

I work on a boat dock and have worked there for a long time, my father owns and built the dock roughly 50 years ago and I can say this, the dock has not deviated from its normal high at high tide nor at low tide since it was built. Wether climate change is real or not isn’t the cause of argument though the part I do not agree with is that it is caused by man and technology. Research the emissions from when mount saint hellens erupted and you’ll see that one eruption of a volcano counts for much much more carbon emissions than humanity has contributed to it. On another note, if it is man made I can say that it is not America that is the largest problem. You are a surfer so you know that whenever a storm pushes water to the coast from China, the water becomes murky and the air becomes dirtier. If man is the driving cause of environmental damage then I am inclined to believe it does us no good to complain to our government when China emits far more emissions than the USA.

          • John Geoghegan

The grate global warming, then climate change is one of the biggest hoaxes ever perpetrated….I live by the beach in North Carolina and it’s the same…those lies claimed the same thing after hurricane Katrina and none since…Al whore + Al sharpton, same old sh@t.

    • SectionAte

Interesting, I live in Malibu, on Malibu road right in front of flatrock since 1995. The water, every winter and every summer, is at the same height as it was the year before. I see the ocean every day because I have no choice, probably more than you, and I hate to call bullsheet because I dont have any reason not to believe you, but if this was in fact the case it would be happening everywhere and not just in La Jolla. I think you might be mistaken by what your witnessing. My guess is its a type of erosion.

      • Occams

Don’t know what to tell you. I have no agenda, since I’m not stupid enough to belong to either political party, so it’s just observation.

Were it sandstone, like the cliffs here, the ‘why’ would be obvious, but this is rock, which CAN erode, but not enough for us to see in our lifetime.

Cheers. Love your area. 3rd gen’ Californian.

        • Gordon

It could easily be sinking beacause of the geology. It may have changed in a minute in one earthquake or or could be slower. So faulted and so much seismic movement there.

        • Bartleby

I can’t help noticing that your observations regarding the tide levels are being dismissed by some of the “inhabitants” of this place: “Maybe it’s erosion.” or “earthquake” or “there’s been no change” or “it’s not caused by Man.” “…it’s China, not the US…”

If you’re making observations that inform your judgement, then you are, indeed using your brain.

Since this place obviously few inhabitants with brains, you will feel very lonely here.

Believe me, it’s not you. It’s them.

        • Henry Mason

I assured that, no, there really are Amerikans as stupid as…well…..you, Bob.

    • Henry Mason

How do you know its not sinking? Did you take measurements every time you went there? Did you hire a survey crew to measure it? Without measurements you couldn’t confirm if the water was rising or land was sinking or washing out to sea.

    • jburr36

There is a mountain just south of Mexicali that rose nearly a meter after an earthquake.
You cannot eliminate all other geological events in your area and draw a logical conclusion.
There are many reasons for the water level change in relation to the rock. Earthquakes, erosion, etc. Many others here have stated there has been zero observable rise in the level of the oceans where they live you have to realize that to believe your conclusion yours must be considered an isolated phenomenon which is highly unlikely.

  • Hugh Mayle

The official government approved version of what happened on 9/11 is a pretty big lie also.

    • Sid Bream

Your comment is totally irrelevant to the article you nincompoop.

      • Hugh Mayle

I wasn’t trying to make a point relevant to the article. Nor am I required to make only points relative to the article. I was pointing out that there are bigger lies out there that are worth examining.

You make a statement with no evidence at all. Just conjecture and hyperbole just like the global warming alarmists do

          • Occams

            “no evidence”?

Are you joking? The EVIDENCE available FAR outweighs that pathetic, preposterous lie called the Official Narrative, you moron.

Read my linked article. It’s full of observational evidence going back well over a century.

Or continue to tow the line that Nobel Award winning world renowned climate scientists Al Gore……Oh wait

          • Occams

Referencing 9/11. And Boston. And Sandy Hoax….etc., as you seemed to be referencing Hugh Mayle’s comment re; 9/11.

Climate Change? I’m SIMPLY GOING BY PERSONAL OBSERVATION. I see what I see. I listen to no one. I have no skin in the game. My O/P was simply having watched 20+ years at my local beach, as a surfer, who is FAR more aware what water does to each wave than ‘someone who drives by’ or ‘look at the pretty ocean’.

Besides that, there’s some unbelievable weather shit working it’s way around the globe. I certainly don’t need to be ‘told’ it’s my imagination….or it’s NOT.

            Sorry. Not a sheep.

          • jburr36

I rely on empirical evidence collected from nearly every continent with coastlines on the ocean. Not by someone with a preconceived ideology who looks out their window and calls what he see’s as evidence. Coastlines always change with erosion. Doesn’t prove the oceans are rising. LOL

          • Occams

            Nicely sidestepped my above comment.

HOWEVER, I RELY on my OWN eyes and observations, since I am ‘where it’s happening’, rather than ‘waiting to be told’ – like idiots who turn on MSM or listen to a lying politicians and think they’re being told the truth.

          • jburr36

And with logic like that we can claim the sea levels are in a catastrophic decline because there is an island being formed where there was once water.

Also the earth must be flat and the sun moon and stars revolve around the earth. It’s how we perceive it, right?

However, again I rather use empirical data collected and analyzed from hundreds of gauges the line the perimeters of the oceans.

”It is, for our home planet, an extremely warm year.

Indeed, last week we learned from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration that the first eight months of 2015 were the hottest such stretch yet recorded for the globe’s surface land and oceans, based on temperature records going to 1880. It’s just the latest evidence that we are, indeed, on course for a record-breaking warm year in 2015.

Yet, if you look closely, there’s one part of the planet that is bucking the trend. In the North Atlantic Ocean south of Greenland and Iceland, the ocean surface has seen very cold temperatures for the past eight months. What’s up with that?

First of all, it’s no error. I checked with Deke Arndt, chief of the climate monitoring branch at NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information, who confirmed what the map above suggests — some parts of the North Atlantic Ocean saw record cold in the past eight months. As Arndt put it by email:

For the grid boxes in darkest blue, they had their coldest Jan-Aug on record, and in order for a grid box to be “eligible” for that map, it needs at least 80 years of Jan-Aug values on the record. Those grid boxes encompass the region from “20W to 40W and from 55N to 60N,” Arndt explained.

And there’s not much reason to doubt the measurements — the region is very well sampled. “It’s pretty densely populated by buoys, and at least parts of that region are really active shipping lanes, so there’s quite a lot of observations in the area,” Arndt said. “So I think it’s pretty robust analysis.”

    • Kenneth C Richardson

The cold water melting off Greenland is cooling the area south of Greenland as it effects the ocean currents etc.

You can bet the military, NASA, NOAA, EPA, DOE, and all the other alphabet soup automatons have been given their marching orders. And of course those marching orders were carefully compartmentalized through the ranks, mindlessly following the usual “need to know” standard, which insures the truth remains hidden from view, accessible only to the very few. The reality is that policymaking of this magnitude is not made by governments, politicians or scientists – it is made in secret by shadow committees wielding colossal power, whose bases of operation might be located in the City of London, Tavistock, The Vatican, the Committee of 30, the think tanks and foundations that birthed the UN and the CFR, and last but not least Tel Aviv. If I missed any, please feel free to add to the list.

So…….more contrived data . It just does’nt stop with the climatologist and their clique . Another contrivance shot down by a credible scientist instead of a non-credible “scientist/ scientists ” and the monies they extorted by using “bad science” . Time for “house burning” .

this is a lie. iv’e been out and studied the sea levels and it has risen. Also this guy is a geologist not a oceanologist, so he studies rocks not water. Also he just one scientist.

  • fedup taxpayer

we all can be reassured that if we pay enough extra taxes this climate change thing can be solved….. just like acid rain…. just like ozone layer…. and the next crisis invented by scientists who need to get paid and shifty and gutless stupid politicians who buy junk science…. wonder what the next crisis will be? Maybe a global ice age? You cant change the weather people!!

  • Henry Mason

I have to know because of the sheer numbers of stupid people that believe this CRAP!

Have you ever taken a 1/2 glass of water and marked it then fill it with ice and let it set for a day then come back in 24 hours to see where the water level is?

Why don’t you do it? See the results. Now lets assume that the ice on the caps were just formed from the water already in the oceans and not from winter storms.

Do you really think that the ocean would still rise even though the same water frozen or not has the same volume?

Do you even consider evaporation as the means to maintain water levels?

It may change states but the amount is the same. There are too many logical ways to look at this verses the lies of climate change.

  • trevormarr

If you look at pictures of the Island of Tarawa in the South Pacific from WWII and now there is very little change. If the sea level has been rising like stated this island would be underwater. As a geologist the measurements don’t add up. There is something going on to where data is being manipulated to show results that are wanted. There is clearly no rise in sea level that can be measured accurately with the plus or minus 10cm uncertainty. Please stop looking at the phony data and do the math. Do your math not theirs.
