Chipotle may stop Serving Guacamole Because… Global Warming

Guacamole, Avacado slices and chipsWe’re thinking we’ll get our burritos at Baja Sol from now on

Holy moly! Chipotle Mexican Grill may stop serving certain items, including the ever-popular guacamole, because of global warming.

And Chipotle would rather cut menu items than pay higher prices for locally grown goods.

According to the company’s SEC filings, food price increases during 2013 have made them more wary of the effects of global warming on their food, and the company expects there to be “additional pricing pressures on some of those ingredients, including avocados, beef, dairy and chicken during 2014.”

“Increasing weather volatility or other long-term changes in global weather patterns, including any changes associated with global climate change, could have a significant impact on the price or availability of some of our ingredients,” Chipotle said. “Any increase in the prices of the ingredients most critical to our menu, such as chicken, beef, cheese, avocados, beans, rice, tomatoes and pork, would adversely affect our operating results.”

GCS might have said, “Holy guacamole!” but that might be cheesy.

“Global warming does not seem to be a direct threat to the world’s avocados. The condition most limiting to growing an avocado tree is cold weather, according to the Texas A&M System AgriLife Extension website. All three primary avocado species are tropical plants: West Indian (P. americana Mill. var. americana), Guatemalan (P. nubigena var. guatamalensis L. Wms.) and Mexican (P. americana var. drymifolia Blake). Mexican varieties are the most cold-hardy, but they can tolerate cold temperatures to only about 20°F (-6.7°C). So it is global cooling that the guacamole aficionados should be concerned with.”

Wow- it’s so cool (pardon the pun) how you find contradictory evidence for EVERYTHING. What a talent!

Of course they only included avocados in the story, along with several other products of concern, and indicated climate change, not warming per se, to be worrisome. It is established that “climate change” is likely the better descriptor than “warming”, while looking at the earth as a whole. “Warming,” while still accurate per the research as being the main impetus for the AGW theory, it was never, or rarely, claimed that it was only warming that was predicted all across the globe. It was the warming of the polar ice caps that became the greatest concern, since this was the first tangible evidence, and will have the biggest initial impact upon coastal cities and low lying countries.

Gee Rob, I find contradictory evidence for EVERYTHING (?) because I look for it. Also, I spot it even when I’m not looking for it. It’s a curse! 🙂

OH! See, we didn’t get that the failed warming predictions caused a rebranding to “climate change.” The climate has been in constant flux since the dawn of the earth. Trying to politicize that basic geologic fact is clever, but it isn’t working. People still aren’t as stupid as you seem to think. Keep working on dumbing people down and eventually you might get a majority to buy into your superstition.

“(I) spot it even when (I’m) not looking for it” Truer words were never spoken by you. Being a contrarian is not a talent. If it was all two to five year old children would be rich. And so would you.
