How Much Warming Will the President’s Plan Avert? (Hint: It’s way too small to be detected or verified)

President Obama unveiled his Climate Change Action Plan at Georgetown University today. As expected, the President advocated carbon dioxide (CO2) emission standards for new and existing coal-fired power plants, tough new energy efficiency standards for homes and appliances, and federal support for private renewable energy investment on public lands.

Congress’s failure to approve his plan would have “a profound impact on the world that we leave behind not just to you, but to your children and to your grandchildren,” Mr. Obama contended.

The President’s plan, however, provides no specifics on the EPA’s pending power plant emission standards, nor does it estimate how many tons of CO2 emissions those standards will avoid or reduce.

Surprisingly, the 21-page plan contains only four emission reduction estimates. The administration’s fuel economy standards are projected to avoid 6000 million tons of CO2; appliance efficiency standards, 3000 million tons; heavy truck fuel economy standards, 270 million tons; and improved forestry practices, 140 million tons. The grand total of itemized CO2 reductions is 9,410 million tons.

How much climate change will that avert? Too little to be detected or verified.

So a total reduction of 9.6 Billion tons, represents 9.6/8,000 Billion tons (8 Gigatons) of the annual AG exchange in the natural environment that includes interchanges of CO2 within the natural reservoirs of over 50,000 GT in the oceans, 1000 GT in the atmosphere and 500,000 GT of the crust….like the headline states, immeasurable impact, except on the gullible human tax me I’m a liberal idiot scale.

Welcome to the carbon cycle! I have said before, years ago, that human contributions of CO2 to the atmosphere have really only slightly tweaked the carbon cycle. It’s much ado about nothing really. And given the fact that the last decade and a half has seen a steady increase in anthropogenic CO2 without a corresponding increase in global temperature is all the evidence I need to tell me that the shrill doomsayers were wrong, and the skeptics have been right all along. Try telling that to our Marxist-in-chief though. This is obviously agenda driven.

So you stole my proper nickname for yourself? You bad bad boy. You are however a good reliable water-carrier for the wing nuts.

“Marxist-in-chief”- I needed a laugh today and knew you could supply it. Thanks Water-boy.

And re: taxes, most liberals want fair taxation. What’s wrong with that? Answer: nothing.

What’s fair about the current tax code? There are so many things wrong with it.

I didn’t say it WAS fair. It is not, so we agree on that I guess.

The American dream is supposed to go something like this: work hard, play fair, and you’ll be rewarded with a level of comfort that’s at least somewhat related to the amount of effort you put it.

We all know that if this was ever true, it’s not true now. The jobs that are available demand long hours and don’t offer much pay, let alone benefits – but they do make a tidy profit for corporations like McDonalds and Walmart. A recent report revealed that it’s our tax dollars that are subsidizing this low-wage economy.

Hello, just remember that recent history clearly shows that revolution only changes one set of scoundals for another. Evolution is the only way. Identify the problems, then work hard to fix them. Yes you will be opposed all the way by the considerable vested interests, and this applies to both the Global warming and climate change myth, to basic economics such as a monopoly of big businesseses

this guy must think people are plain stupid he is catering to his base with stupid nonsensical plans, imagine that another Obama speech that raises funds but is complete nonsence.

his plan to have americans buy electric cars is more rooted in fact his donors have stock in those companies or own them themselves, just like all failed stimulas money that went to his donors companies like cylindra wich is now owned by Chinese after getting millions from American public then going into bankruptcy.

1 million electric cars in us will only keep planet from warming (if you actualy believe in global warming scam) for one hour.

same as always its a bunch of talk about nothing. yet were all paying 25 % more for our heating because of the global warming lobbyist because the companies producing actual power/energy is being penalized. can you say more government money grab ?

wise up America don’t blindly believe what your told, question it. if this guys mouths moving….. hes dangerous

Hey, you’re right. But it has always been about attacking capitalism, and destroying the fossil fuel industry. This is why the “solutions” always include the same things no matter what the stated problem is. Back when it was global cooling that was the going scare, they were saying the solution was, you guessed it, solar, wind, and electric cars. Now that the scare is global warming, the “solution” is the same things.
