The role of natural variability in climate must be squashed at all costs. Just think of the consequences if natural variability were allowed to persist: we wouldn’t be able to “control” the climate by tinkering with a harmless trace gas, and we wouldn’t be able to shame Western civilisation into abandoning centuries of progress in order to “save the planet”. We might have to just accept what nature throws at us – and adapt.
And, more worryingly for The Cause, we wouldn’t be able to fill government and research coffers with taxpayers money, extracted by means of “carbon pricing”. And that would be a disaster. So whatever weather phenomenon happens, we can be sure that we will get more of the same, and it will be blamed on “man made global warming” to keep the bandwagon rolling.
For the last decade, Australia has suffered a period of drought. Prior to its recent end, scientists were falling over themselves to say that this was the “new climate” that we must get used to. Paid government hacks like Tim Flannery wailed about dams never filling again, and billions were spent on desalination plants to cater for the future without water.
How things change. After some of the worst floods in recent history in New South Wales, the alarmist Sydney Morning Herald finds a scientist to say that in future we will have… more floods. In other words, more of whatever we’ve just had…
It must be comforting to know that whatever happens it is proof of global warming. It’s like UFO’s now. You can’t “prove” that they don’t exist. People have been claiming to see them for 60-70 years now, but as of yet they remain unidentified. Which means that they are more than likely a combination of misidentified aircraft and natural phenomenon, and when people see these things they have no idea what their looking at, and they want it to be aliens, so it’s aliens! I think this is similar to weather and global warming. People see what they think is strange weather, so they automatically think it’s because of global warming because of the very successful propaganda, and the constant drumbeat of alarmism in the press. But what is really going on is that what is being experienced is all a part of natural variation. I think what people are not realizing is that there is, and never was, a thing called normal. Normal is a concept that does not actually exist in the real universe. When it comes to weather, we all think what is normal are the conditions that existed during our own experiance. And on a planet that has a constantly changing atmosphere that’s an apple cart that’s shure to be knocked over at any time.
Except when you actually see one (UFO).
The daily change in climate is natural. On July 1st had a tornado hammer my house with major damage and I mean major. Saw the tornado coming at me which was amazing. Last one to come through my area was 1911. Must be climate change? No, it is a natural item in weather be you in MN, Florida or any state. Nature happens naturally and I was simply in nature’s path. Not because of CO2 which is everyone’s cope out. Weather and climate is never constant.
Thank God my wife screamed that I quit looking at it and to forget my laptop and come into the bathroom now! Thank God I listened. Got in the bathroom and shut the door and within seconds the window I was up against seconds before exploded as my boat house exploded sending shards of glass and debris where I was just standing. Weather is ever changing and has been since I was a young one and thousands of years before me. Finally, it was the first time I listened to my wife in 42 years and she literally saved my life. Suggest you all listen to your wife more often? I finally did and I can still post tonight. Climate change is natural. Enjoy your evening.

There is a story, probably apocryphal, of a Native American scouting expedition that came across the starving members of the Donner Party in 1847, who were snowbound in the Sierra Nevadas and resorted to cannibalism in order to survive. The expedition, which had never seen white people before, observed the Donner Party from a distance, then returned to base camp to report what they had seen. The report consisted of four words: “They eat each other.” Frankly, if I could summarize the argument of Why America Failed in a single phrase, this would be it. Unless Occupy Wall Street (or some other sociopolitical movement) manages to turn things around in a fundamental way, “They ate each other” will be our epitaph.
Well that is not a true story. It is fiction. Just like the Chinatown, and Kurt Voneget things. Not a shred of truth to them but you use them as what? Examples of how rotton America is? This is pathetic, even for you.
Been to “Donner Pass.” Very interesting site and area and how man tried to survive. See this in animals in nature when they have nothing to eat. Yes, Neilio, it is not fact, it is fiction. Strongly suggest that anyone with interest go there and see, read the circumstances. Similar to the plane that crashed in, I believe in South America years ago with the soccer players? What lengths people will go through for survival. My hunting buddies and I talk about the “What if’s” when in the middle of know where and all hell breaks loose what exactly would you do absent food? We are supplied and armed but food lasts only so long as well as ammunition to defend yourself. Tough choice when you wish to live, eh? Can sense this Rob guy has never been in the wilderness or he would not us this as an analogy with fictional information.

I now tell me wife I love her before I go to bed in the evening knowing that they may be the last three words she may hear if I pass. More should do same. We sometimes take our families for granted don’t we? I know I did, nor will I ever again. Like is precious I learned. Homes can be rebuilt. As to families? It’s up to us isn’t it? Think about it. Many Americans, it seems, have forgotten a basic truth: that the Great American Middle Class was largely a creation of the federal government and its policies dating back to Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal. For many Tea Partiers, it is more satisfying to think that they or their parents climbed the social ladder on their own, that they “didn’t need no guv-mint help.”
But the truth is that it was government policies arising out of the Great Depression and carried forward through the post-World War II years by both Republican and Democratic presidents that created the opportunities for tens of millions of Americans to achieve relative comfort and economic security. And now the Right is doing its best (worst) to take it away. That rarest of historical accomplishments… a Middle Class.
You post quite often with no valid responses other than “Neilio.” I sense you are a “legend in your own mind.” Note that it is always simply you? Simply an observation.

There is now a slew of books showing that this time around economic recovery is not really possible, and that we are going to be eclipsed by China or even Europe. These are books by very respected economists, and even a US Intelligence report of two yrs ago, “Global Trends 2025,” says pretty much the same thing, although it adds cultural and political decline into the mix (shocker!). The statistics here are massive, but just consider a single one: in terms of collective wealth, the top 1 percent of the nation owns more than the bottom 90 percent. If we have a future, but it’s that of a banana republic. And there will be no New Deal this time around to save us; just the opposite, in fact, as our duly elected “public servants” are busy shredding any social safety net we once had.

Romney’s a plutocrat leading a party that dogmatically promotes the interests of the 1 percent. He’s admitted that his net worth is approximately “$200-and-some-odd million.” (In 2010 and 2011 Romney made a total of $42 million and paid less than 14 percent in taxes.) Of course, wealth alone does not determine political philosophy — FDR and JFK were wealthy — but Romney’s actions indicate he has swallowed the radical conservative ethos that defines contemporary Republican politics.
