Aliens Could Attack Earth to End Global Warming, NASA Scientist Frets

Fox News Story

We’ve all heard of the ravaged rain forests and the plight of the polar bear. But as far as reasons for saving the planet go, the one offered by scientists Thursday is truly out of this world.

A team of American researchers have produced a range of scenarios in which aliens could attack the earth, and curiously, one revolves around climate change.

They speculate that extraterrestrial environmentalists could be so appalled by our planet-polluting ways that they view us as a threat to the intergalactic ecosystem and decide to destroy us.

I’m waiting for ET to tell me what to put into my tank. Possibly ET? What a joke. No wonder NASA lost it’s funding?

  2. NEIL F. AGWD/BSD August 20, 2011 at 7:50 am #

Just for argument’s sake, let’s say there is an alien race observing us. Do you think they would look at the Voyagers 1&2, (two small probes launched over 30 years ago that are just now leaving the solar system), and think that we are a threat to the intergalactic ecosystem? Really? Intergalactic? You do realize that at this rate it will take the Voyagers approximately 187,000 years to make it to the edge of the Milky Way? Right? Really? Intergalactic? Really? I mean you do realize that intergalactic means between galaxies? Right? Really? Is this not the epitome of hyperbole?

And would they, the aliens, just arbitrarily decide to destroy us even if there was some small chance in hell that we were a possible threat to the intergalactic ecosystem? Don’t you think they might want to at least try to communicate to us that we were unknowingly causing harm before they just wipe us out? This is just ridiculous! And I mean that literally in that this is something that has the ultimate worthiness for ridicule!

This really tells me two things:
    1. This, or these, NASA scientist(s) is/are abandoning all credibilty for scare factor.
    2. NASA scientists can get a hold of some real killer buds!

Not being a math guy, I could be wrong about how long it would take Voyager to reach the edge of the Milky Way. I just know it is 1000 light years from here to the edge of the galaxy. All I know is that Voyager is statistically sitting in my back yard as far as its relative distance to intergalactic space.

      • NEIL F. AGWD/BSD August 20, 2011 at 11:15 am #

And another thing. Is not the space between galaxies essentially void? Is it even possible to have an ecosystem were no ecology exists?

  3. Joe August 20, 2011 at 9:48 pm #

I quess we will address it when it may, or may not come. Pure fiction to fuel the masses. What else can they say? Case closed.

    • NEIL F. AGWD/BSD August 20, 2011 at 10:16 pm #

Well it’s funny you mention fiction…. this was the plot in the newer version of The Day The Earth Stood Still. Which even the original was kind of along the same lines. I refused to see the new one because I like keeping my stomach contents within my stomach, but the idea that aliens were to give a rat’s rear what we do is just….. just… I hate to say it, but it’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard really. I mean even if there are intelligent aliens technologically advanced enough to travel the vast distances through space to come here out there, why would they? Unless they are looking for life of course. I actually do believe that there is life out there somewhere. I mean there has to be. And I love science fiction too, but this is just over the top stupid.

  4. NEIL F. AGWD/BSD August 21, 2011 at 10:11 pm #

Hold the phone folks! I am relieved to say that this story is false. There was a paper, and one of the three researchers does work for NASA but it was something they were doing in their spare time for fun. They never intended this to be taken seriously, and are kinda pissed that someone reported it as a real story. As am I.

  5. Rob N. Hood August 23, 2011 at 9:09 am #

Hyperbole: what the Right does at the drop of a hat to fuel their madness. Example: see above.

    • NEIL F. AGWD/BSD August 23, 2011 at 6:37 pm #

I knew you couldn’t stay away! Welcome back. Even though you are a pain in the a** sometimes, I have to admit I kinda missed you. Now, can you give us some examples of hyperbole from the right?

      • NEIL F. AGWD/BSD August 24, 2011 at 9:24 pm #

Oh, I see. Just hit and run now?

  6. Jim L August 25, 2011 at 10:07 am #

Maybe they will attack us to get rid of idiots that mix politics with science.

  7. Rob N. Hood August 25, 2011 at 4:28 pm #

You are so myopic. The hyperbole I was referring to was your own, posted above… of course. Sheesh.

    • NEIL F. AGWD/BSD August 25, 2011 at 9:23 pm #

As far as I can tell the only hyperbole I used was “All I know is that Voyager is statistically sitting in my back yard as far as its relative distance to intergalactic space.”
And how exactly am I myopic? And I suppose your vision is much broader and far seeing?

  8. Joe August 27, 2011 at 10:08 pm #

    Always missed one sided discourse.

  9. Rob N. Hood August 28, 2011 at 3:55 pm #

Your first post WAS hyperbolic (i.e. endorsing the above story as more obvious nuttiness from the Left, and not something more likely such as a joke, or a planted story). Your myopathy comes from asking me for an example of the Right’s hyperbole when you in fact had just demonstrated such impeccably. Your seeming inability to understand any of this is more of the same feigned faux confusion, or an actual lack of smarts. We report, you decide…

    • NEIL F. AGWD/BSD August 28, 2011 at 5:20 pm #

How can it be hyperbolic if I prefaced with “Just for argument’s sake”? Hyperbole is an exageration like “I’m so hungry I could eat a horse” or, “I’m so tired I could sleep for a year”.
Also, once I found out it wasn’t a real story I posted that fact right away. And FYI, I thought it was over the top nutty. Even nuttier than Liberals. So your complaint falls flat.

      • NEIL F. AGWD/BSD August 28, 2011 at 9:14 pm #

What no snappy comeback for that? You know what you call feigned faux confusion, I call incredulity. I was expressing my disbelief in the credibility of the story. And guess what? My incredulity was totally warranted! And the truth be told RNH, there is no such thing as an intergalactic ecosystem. It’s a vacuum! There is no air, no water, no soil, no microbes, no anything.
So I guess all you’re doing is just being a contrarian because there is no logical reason to contradict (poorly) what I was saying.

      • Rob N. Hood August 29, 2011 at 9:22 am #

I noticed what you did after you found out it wasn’t real. Congrats on that….(?!) But you were oh so eager to ASSUME it was real, weren’t you? C’mon, some real honesty and genuine humility for a change would be so refreshing. But that, at usual, may be too much to expect.

        • NEIL F. AGWD/BSD August 29, 2011 at 12:35 pm #

That makes no sense after what I said. I thought it was utter nonsense! And if you’ll notice I did not bash Liberals, I was bashing the scientist that allegedly wrote it. But really RNH after seeing a million times the stories about doom and gloom from the purveyors of AGW fearmongering, do you blame me for thinking it was real? Besides, that’s not the point. The point is that you said I was being hyperbolic and myopic. So far you have not demonstrated how I was either.

  10. Joe August 28, 2011 at 9:18 pm #

Let’s leave it at that. Bunk is bunk.

  11. Rob N. Hood August 29, 2011 at 9:23 am #

Oh, and a Master Contrarian, calling me contrarian, is very amusing to say the least.

    • NEIL F. AGWD/BSD August 29, 2011 at 12:37 pm #

I’m only contrarian to you and my original comments on the subject were not directed at you so how is that contrarian again?

  12. Rob N. Hood August 30, 2011 at 5:25 pm #

    amusing… funny guy…

    • Jerk A. Knot September 1, 2011 at 8:25 am #

Again you enter a room and start shooting off your mouth and when you are held accountable for your statements you voice disgust and deflect responsibility.

Why were you gone for so long??? Adjusting to new meds???

  13. Joe September 1, 2011 at 11:30 pm #

    He was studing Algoreisms.

  14. NEIL F. AGWD/BSD September 2, 2011 at 6:41 am #

I used to get very frustrated with RNH’s comments, but it’s really not that bad because it is very illustrative of how the Left argues. They can’t use facts so they rely on belittleing, ridiculing, changing the subject, etc., etc. They will try to make it an emotional argument because they know that if you can whip up emotion to a fever pitch it will trump logic and reason every time. And if you can push the right emotional button you can cause your opponent to lose control and say something regrettable. So, I don’t mind at all now. I’m learning a lot from it.

  15. Rob N. Hood September 3, 2011 at 3:53 pm #

You poor RNH-abused people. Why oh why cannot EVERYONE see what is so clearly your humble genius and child-like innocence??!! You, who are so Responsible and beacons of Integrity… so guileless and honest…. that dirty dirty RNH! He ruins Everything!

    • NEIL F. AGWD/BSD September 3, 2011 at 3:58 pm #

You’re the one that comes here to harrass us, what do you expect?

  16. Rob N. Hood September 4, 2011 at 3:08 pm #

Really? That thin-skinned are we?! Buck up Bucko.

  17. joe September 5, 2011 at 12:00 am #

Neil, I deal with Rob Boy’s like this harassing statements daily. Talk is cheap. Take his demeaning left liberal leaning statements at face value. When a left liberal has no answer, they change the subject, claims you are racist, fascist, hate your Mother, et al. Bottom line, they have no rational answer, nor will they answer your question. See/hear it time and time again. This fraud Boy Rob, re-affirms what I state. I stand by this statement. Prove my wrong.

    • NEIL F. AGWD/BSD September 5, 2011 at 9:42 pm #

Yeah, I know that. I can’t have a little fun?

  18. Rob N. Hood September 6, 2011 at 8:43 am #

Yeah PaulJoe, he KNOWS that… hmmm sounds like my young teenage daughter’s answer to everything…. awww, Rob hurt poor wittle U?

  19. Joe September 6, 2011 at 10:04 pm #

Your posts sound like a “little one.” Who’s Paul?

    • V September 7, 2011 at 1:19 am #

      Wenum. Or whomever you choose.

  20. V September 7, 2011 at 1:22 am #

    Eh, lil j

  21. Joe September 7, 2011 at 9:33 pm #

I’m missing something. What is: eh lil j” and who is this guy you bring up? Meds taking effect?

  22. Rob N. Hood September 8, 2011 at 11:58 am #

Your doppelganger, Joe, Paul W. to whom you bare a striking if not alarming resemblance. The late great Paul dubbed anyone not sufficiently far to the radical Right as “boy”- thus V’s dubbing you as lil j. Touche V, touche. Or so I’m guessing.

  23. Joe September 8, 2011 at 9:21 pm #

Whatever you say Sir. Are you boys? Just asking. Talk like young ones with no semblance of the real world don’t you? Please educate me.

  24. Rob N. Hood September 9, 2011 at 6:53 pm #

Oh wise sage, how could such boys as us ever hope to educate the brainiac that is thou?! Not to mention our pathetic and utter lack of “real world” experience. Please sir, may we have another… of your witticisms…???

  25. Joe September 9, 2011 at 7:05 pm #

Remind me of young gents in London and sound just like em. Do ya? Real world will teach you reality as it exists, won’t it. Of course you would not know simply reading from your script given ya. Right? Ya Right!

  26. Rob N. Hood September 10, 2011 at 7:25 am #

Ya sure, yu betcha. You Rightys like to assume a lot. Makes for a stunted reality. At least logically speaking. But perhaps you’re an actual real-live expert on reality (I didn’t even know there was such a vocation- it’s a very large field) even with regards to the reality of others whom you’ve never met or even know anything about other than what you claim to glean from a few sentences on a blog. But I guess with special right-wing powers it ain’t that hard.

  27. Joe September 10, 2011 at 10:01 pm #

Yes, to answer your question, I am an expert on reality.

  28. Rob N. Hood September 11, 2011 at 7:19 am #

Your powers are awesome… and yet you are so humble.

  29. Joe September 11, 2011 at 10:30 pm #

So are your’s. Senior left wing liberal to the farthest degree ever recorded in history. You must be an icon to your “Masters” delight. Sure he’s proud of your efforts. I assume you are on the POTUS’s e-mail string as well as twitter?

  30. Rob N. Hood September 14, 2011 at 8:44 am #

I am no further Left than you are Right. Actually I believe my views are more mainstream than yours. That is not a boast or even an absolutely superior thing, it’s just what I think is a simple fact based on what I know about it and about your views. You and yours are the radicals. Again that is not always a bad thing to be, but sometimes it is. I’m just saying this because of your statement, that’s all. Before you accuse soemone of something it is always good to look at yourself first, and adjust accordingly. For example, the Left in the 60’s knew they were radical, called themselves such, and were proud of it. They ultimately failed in many ways, not all, but they at least acknowledged who they were in a rather honest way. Another example- the Republican establishment will not cede any of it’s power and control over to the radical Right. They will play you for votes, which is what the Democratic party does to people like me. But they will not allow you to go any further than they want. That is why we need additional political parties and run-off elections. Both parties will continue to fight real change that could allow real “RESET.” Thus to answer your final rant- Obama is no friend of the real Liberal/Progressive. I disagree with many things he has done, and not becuase they are too Liberal. Because in REALITY he is not very Liberal. Nor are many of our elected “leaders” unfortunately.

    • Dan McGrath September 14, 2011 at 9:30 am #

Pure delusion. “Conservative” implies conserving what we now have. It imports caution and preservation of tradition. How, oh how can that be considered radical? There are no radical conservatives. It’s an oxymoron.

  31. Rob N. Hood September 14, 2011 at 4:55 pm #

Please Dan. What a specious argument you try to make. It’s laughable actually. What really scares people like me is that you people really believe things that you say, such as above. If so, you are deluding yourselves to the point of losing touch with reality. I do not say that lightly or with any malice. It is truly worrisome and even frightening. That there have been, and still are to some extent or another, conservatives of the old mold, I am not contesting. That they are you, or those that frequent these pages, is a completely other matter however. I believe it is because of your conservative foundations that you retreat from any notion of your own radical-ness. It’s logical that would be the case. To call me delusional is itself delusional. Poll after poll would show me to be the more mainstream. Again, it is not a boast. I even cringe a bit to admit that. But it also is a reality. You know, that thing that people need to remain close to, as much as possible…

  32. Dan McGrath September 15, 2011 at 11:30 am #

The only polls that really matter are those that happen in November. Seems that the radical left is losing big lately (as they’ve revealed themselves and found themselves rejected for what they are). If you’re so mainstream, why is your side losing elections like mad? Seems the mainstream prefers the conservative candidates. As I said, delusion. Maybe November 2012 will wake you up.

  33. Rob N. Hood September 15, 2011 at 3:09 pm #

I believe it is the radical Right who revealed thdemselves since the last election and peole have responded by recalling many of them, sometimes, not always successfully. Elections are indeed important, espcially when they are kept honest and free from legal activism. I believe you may have mentioned that vs. polls because the polls are indeed more in line with people like me. That’s all, no more no less. That was my point. And re: the “radical” Left losing- I don’t know what “they” are losing exactly, you didn’t say. Also, “they” don’t really exist in this country to any extent to even talk about. But please, don’t let me stop you. Right-wing delusion, while being scary, can also be humorous.

    • Dan McGrath September 15, 2011 at 3:56 pm #

The Wisconsin recall effort, initiated by a bunch of union goons throwing a tantrum because some of their candy got taken away failed.

More recently, the NY special election yielded a House seat held by Democrats for the last 91 years to a Republican. An URBAN NY district, mind you… the Bronx, no less.

Carry on. The less your side realizes how much trouble it’s in the easier you make it. The left is doing my work for me and defeating itself. Just keep talking.

  34. Rob N. Hood September 15, 2011 at 3:12 pm #

IF you are referring, potentially, to those brave band of Lefist protesters who turn out for WHO, GATT, World Bank, etc. summits then again I don’t know what they are losing. They always lose. That’s why I think them brave.

  35. Rob N. Hood September 15, 2011 at 6:42 pm #

“Union goons”…wow. Unions gave you your weekend off. Unless you have become like many of us non-union members who have to work two jobs… And they helped to create the middle class, thank you very much. Nothin’ big, ya know, for goons…

  36. Rob N. Hood September 18, 2011 at 10:06 am #

… And real benefits, etc. that allow people to be human. Big business and corporations NEVER gave the working person ANYTHING out of the goodness of their hearts, even when it was something that might improve morale thus production WITHOUT the blood seat and tears (and lives) from very brave people.
