Where is the Green Jobs Explosion?

Wind Turbine

Wind Turbine

By Ed Morrissey

When Barack Obama spoke of “necessarily bankrupting” coal-fueled electricity producers, he claimed that the explosion in “green jobs” would replace the workers dislocated by penalizing fossil fuels.  So far, though, there is little evidence of any explosion in green jobs, or even significant job creation at all.  As Politico reports, the Obama administration is having to fall back on “saved and created” language to describe its big investment in the green-collar field:

President Barack Obama heads to an energy plant in North Carolina on Monday to talk once again about the job-creating power of a green economy.

The catch? Nearly three years into Obama’s presidency, the White House can’t point to much solid evidence that significant numbers of Americans are scoring the green jobs the president has been touting.

Monthly Labor Department employment reports say nothing about the new clean energy workforce, while an effort to document how many Americans actually make a living in the “green collar” field may not be done by November 2012.

Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers suggests 225,000 clean energy jobs were either created or preserved through the third quarter of 2010 thanks to more than $80 billion in the economic stimulus package. But those are estimates at best.

At $80 billion, that would mean a cost of $355,555.56 of public subsidy per job created … or “saved.”  At best, as Politico states.

By the way, where are the “Green Jobs?” With 9.2% unemployment absent people that gave up looking. Where are the “Green Jobs” that will allegedly save our economy? Name them and qualify with details all knowing one.

The multi-national corporations and the government (same thing) in this country don’t want/need green technology at this stage of the game. Their vested interests are all in the status quo, which is a very elemental concept that pretty much everyone understands, except for those on the radical right. Not to mention that oil is the one common denominator for them all, especially the Defense (War) Dept. (MIC), that is absolutley required to keep our failed casino capitalism propped up via, among other things, military misadventures (to keep oil under our control as much as possible) and of course “our” most profitable export- weapons sales. It’s causing the downward spiral we find ourselves in and it looks like we will NOT learn from all the other doomed empires in history to avoid even greater pain and suffering, and maybe even complete collapse. But I know, this is too deep (“off topic” per many on this site) for any serious consideration.

HA HA HA HEHEHE wwwHAHAHAHA.. You Lefties and your rants….. Robbie you really need to stop smoking what ever it is you are smoking… it is creating more greenhouse gasses. That is bad for the this big green and blue marble we live on.

The truth is out there. But apparently you will never find it.

  3. Joe July 11, 2011 at 9:21 pm #

Darn it. There goes my jug of milk in plastic. Back to paper like the 50’s 60’s. Hope they have lots of trees available. Oh I forgot. The Sierra Club willl save us won’t they.

That is supposed to be an intelligent, cogent, logical addition to this discussion? If so, go somewhere else. Nevermind… I will.

  7. Joe July 14, 2011 at 10:25 pm #

The question was “Where are the green jobs?” GE outsourced thousands laying off thousands of Americans, Why? I know, do you? Can hardly wait for your left wing socialist, anti-military bias with not one finger pointed at GE, correct? Forgot, “The leader” sits on the right side of Obama. Must not chastise him even though he and the messiah laugh about “shovel ready jobs,” or lack thereof. That would be a “liberal sin” wouldn’t it? We all await facts with your answer but that said, can see a two para rant forthcoming. We are impatiently waiting.

    • Jerk A. Knot July 15, 2011 at 9:45 am #

      Joe funny you mention GE….

“the National Electrical Manufacturers Association in Arlington, Virginia. Lighting companies have already retooled their manufacturing plants to make compact- fluorescent, light-emitting-diode and halogen products that comply with the law.

The association, which includes Fairfield, Connecticut- based General Electric Co., is lobbying against the push to prevent the light-bulb changes.”

How funny that the lefties are bowing to an “evil corporation” …. It proves that they are also subject to greed. But it is ok because they are so much more compassionate then the right wingers….. HA what a bunch of hog wash.

  8. Rob N. Hood July 15, 2011 at 12:02 pm #

No, it’s not ok for GE to manipulate laws for its benefit, the only good part is that the new bulbs save a lot of energy and that is a good thing. GE remains an evil corporation in Liberal eyes regardless. You people apparently cannot think or perceive in multiple dimensions or in the ever present crucial grey areas. THAT ability is what makes Liberals and Progressive superior, more than any other attribute you’d like to believe. That is all I have to say… it is a hard truth for you Rightys to swallow, and knowing you as I do by now you won’t ever admit that that limitation is a huge disability. So huge I cannot even put it into words. Because it is that disability that has caused probably 90% of the solvable problems we as humans have faced since the beginning of time.

And knowing the unfortunate power that disability has it is now my belief that only the Creator can save the human race and this world.

    • Rob N. Hood July 15, 2011 at 12:04 pm #

Oops, I guess I did put it into words. Sorry for that miscue. Good bye and good luck… we’ll need it.

  9. Jerk A. Knot July 15, 2011 at 2:54 pm #

HA ha Ha your dementia grows in leaps and bounds…. One good thin is that you keep me laughing. HAHAHA “reason and Logic. How much energy is going to be saved by the new Light bulbs. They take more energy to make. They take more energy to dispose of because of the toxic mercury in them. And what kind of energy is it that is being saved. Right now hundreds of thousands of KW’s are released everyday at almost every power plant in the US that are never used. Power plants operate on a steady production. None of it is produced by Oil… so what are the savings? Can you enlighten me on this?

You are the problem. All you do is cry and complain. In the year I have been on this site I have never seen you bring a solution to the table… You are just like all the left wing hacks that just snipe at the right but lack logic and reasoning. No solutions just attacks. Grow up and take responsibility for what you are doing and stop blaming everyone else. I am not mad at you I actually fell sorry for you. I guess I really should not be laughing I should be crying

  10. Rob N. Hood July 15, 2011 at 4:45 pm #

Wow… Righty magical thinking and fantasy… on display for everyone to see. It sort of sounds like you are crying and complaining… but that can’t be can it??!!

BTW- why did you get so upset when I responded promptly and completely to your post? Is it easy for you to become hysterical? Or can’t you think in complexities, or more than on a superficial dimension? I’d really like to know.

  11. Joe July 16, 2011 at 12:24 am #

Sounds like Obama today. All yack and no shack. Absent a tele-prompter he was life a deer in headlights. Same old sound bites that have been disproven. “80%” want to tax the rich. Not true, 34 % do, etc. The Man is in a world of business with ill advised advisors that have never had a real job absent the dude from GE that laughs as he off shores half his employees, does not pay taxes and Obama laughs as well. He’s totally clueless. And he is our President? God forbid. Can hardl wait for 2012!!!!!!!

  12. Rob N. Hood July 16, 2011 at 5:04 pm #

Obama is only 100 times smarter than Bush and McCain combined. That still doesn’t make him a good Liberal or even a Liberal, unfortunately. As a Democrat he is obviously the lesser of two evils, but still evil, i.e. a neo-liberal conservative. And you people are too blinded by bias and other forms of blindness to be able to recognize that truth. Your side wins either way: a hard core Repub or a Repub lite. You should be happy instead of complaining and crying. But it’s par for your course… you cannot/will not see it. How unfortunate for you. You live in the time and place of your dreams and yet you persist in self-imposed delusional agony. How very ironic… and irritating. And btw you didn’t answer my question. Just sayin’.

  13. Joe July 16, 2011 at 10:34 pm #

Who’s pushing the taking of mercury out of my drinking water, lakes, streams, fish, food et al, the Sierra Club! Left wing liberal save the world club wherein the majority live in the cities watch “Oprah”, PBS et al as they push being eco freindly. Mercury is in the damned light bulbs you are pushing air head!!! Get real. Would need a team of experts in hazmet suits to clean up my new government enforced light bulbs if, and when broken! Then GE off shores production of this fabulous bulb laying off thousands of American workers. Get a real life, you bore me with your socialist, left wing liberal elitist attitude. (claiming you know and are better than us) attitude. Join the real world.

  14. Rob N. Hood July 17, 2011 at 6:48 pm #

Wowser. Another unhinged self-rightous rant from the Right… how boring. You don’t understand what the others finally (granted, after a very long long time) realized. Your responses shine a light on your radical extremist personality, warts and all. Only other radicals will validate your views, but the vast majority, like me, find a morbid kind of amusement from them. Very morbid. Zing.

  15. Joe July 17, 2011 at 10:02 pm #

Not a rant from the right nor radical. Truth is hard to digest from the left. Seen that for years. Just as the dems that cannot understand that you can only spend what you take in. Very simple. Even “trust Baby” Dayton, figured it out, or did he? Doubt it. He’s probably never balanced a checkbook!

    • Jerk A. Knot July 18, 2011 at 10:40 am #

Notice he did not deny your statements of truth he just called you a ranting Righty… His thought process is pervited by idealogy and he calles it logic and reason…. yet hed does not even know how to define them.

      • Rob N. Hood July 19, 2011 at 8:31 am #

I could say (more accurately) the exact same as you Jerk. It’s what they call Projection, on your part.

  16. Rob N. Hood July 18, 2011 at 9:50 am #

Was W a “trust baby” and did he ever balance a checkbook? Just wonderin’. At least Dayton’s business is/was successful. Bush wasn’t a sucess in anything he did, except to get rich off of taxpayers via his infamous baseball stadium rip-off.

    • Jerk A. Knot July 18, 2011 at 10:58 am #

OK you are right GWB is an idiot. That out of the way What does GWB have to do with the Billionair Dayton keeping his cook on the state payrole as an essential state government employee. Then he figured out it would only take a little physical responsibility to balance the books…. What the He!! does either have to do with the other.

  17. Joe July 18, 2011 at 7:18 pm #

The Dayton family business was a success. He’s never had a real job! Apparently you know not what you speak. Typical rant once again. Facts would be nice for a change. Sounds like you are a Trust Baby?

    • Jerk A. Knot July 19, 2011 at 2:22 pm #

      Joe,

I am on your side but if you are going to make a statement make sure it is factual…. “Dayton worked as a teacher for two years in New York City, and then as chief financial officer of a social service agency in Boston, Massachusetts” an excerpt form an independant sourse. I chastise RNH for his rants that are full of lies and distortion. We must keep to the high road and refrain from stooping to his level.

  18. Rob N. Hood July 19, 2011 at 8:30 am #

How elitiest of you to say Dayton never had a real job. Like you know. Did W? Governor of Texas barely constitutes a real job (their Governorship is much different than Minn. and many other States). Research it if you have to… cuz I have.

    • Jerk A. Knot July 19, 2011 at 10:32 am #

HAHAHAHA…. There you go again. He created jobs by running 2 companies and paid payroles. Then he bought a controlling intrest in the Rangers and grew it. When he ran for GOV he sold his shares. Oh BTW his Democrat enemies sicked the SEC on him by makeing accuations… All were found to be lies. Just get over Bush he is out of the picture…. what is happening now.

  19. Rob N. Hood July 20, 2011 at 3:35 pm #

What is happening now? Based on your delusions stated above you would have no idea.

  20. Rob N. Hood July 20, 2011 at 3:36 pm #

What is happening now? Based on your delusions stated above you would have no idea. BTW all of W’s businesses were financed by Poppy’s elitist wealthy friends and not one was successful. Why am I bothering? I’m not anymore.

    • Jerk A. Knot July 21, 2011 at 10:40 am #

      Robbie Boy.

Ok, I have no idea. Educate me on what needs to be done today to fix the worlds climate problems. You call us stupid and deliousional.. What is the logical and reasonable solutions available.

To submit a logical and reasonable solution ther must be a valid problem. So go ahead and school me.

      • Rob N. Hood July 30, 2011 at 7:50 am #

I don’t believe I called anyone stupid. Illogical and irrational but not stupid. But if the shoes fits…

  21. Joe July 20, 2011 at 6:48 pm #

Wasn’t it about “Green Jobs?” Where are they without a subsidy? They rarely exist.

    • Jerk A. Knot July 21, 2011 at 10:27 am #

Now this is a good point. “Green Jobs” are a political tag line not a real thing. The reality is that if there is such a thing as “green Jobs” it is such a small sector that it can not change anything… But it makes us feel good to use the term and buy the “green” products….

    • Rob N. Hood July 31, 2011 at 7:28 am #

And Oil and Nukes get no subsidies? Get real.

      • Rob N. Hood August 2, 2011 at 8:21 am #

Oh! No answer to this question??!! My my.

  22. Joe July 21, 2011 at 10:25 pm #

Did you hear where corn “sweat” and the heavy rains caused the “heat index” explosion nationwide? All I know is that it was 96-98 degrees, not 118! Moisture off corn and other biofuels is the culprit? Of course the MSM makes it seem like it was 110! It was not. Can see Gore and his MSM minions smiling and lining up to go to the Carbon tax credit bank to cash in their old, no value chips. Just wait, it is coming on the “Heat Index.”

  23. Joe August 2, 2011 at 9:51 pm #

Robbie hood, everyone seems to get subsidies. That’s our problem. Be it toenail trimmers or whomever. Get rid of all of them and let the economy work as it should not supported by our tax dollars. If they cannot make a profit, go out of business. Econ 101! Notice you only point out one’s you detest. Not one’s you support. Isn’t that a contradiction? Typical left wing liberal.

  24. Rob N. Hood August 3, 2011 at 7:26 am #

Not at all. Our country (as does a majority) provides subisidies to those areas they want/need to boost for a variety of (not always) good reasons. Always have and they always will do that. It is a crucial (although sometimes abused) aspect of government/business. To deny that and to paint me into your black and white illogical world is ridiculous and once again highlights the lack of logic and reasoning on the Right. Congratulations.

  25. Joe August 3, 2011 at 9:35 pm #

Why do you know it is “crucial?” Explain in detail what is crucial in a subsidy??? Give us all readers examples. Your statement has no meat on the bone, just blather as usual. Let us all know with facts behind it. Waiting.

  26. Rob N. Hood August 4, 2011 at 9:12 am #

Your response to my thoughtful and thorough post has no meat on the bone, and had more than a little blather attached to it. The “FACT” is this: You Righty wing-nut radicals do not believe in government, other than perhaps for “Defense” (war). You cannot be more wrong about that, that if not for your bit of “tea party” success, of late, you and yours would simply be laughingstocks and on the lunatic fringe- to which you will return once your days in the sun are over. This, and only this, am I in agreement with the Republican Party.

  27. Joe August 4, 2011 at 10:39 pm #

Rants are fine. Answer the question. Man, get off the caffeine!

  28. paul wenum August 6, 2011 at 1:02 am #

There was no thought behind your statements nor was it thorough. Try again. Remember, you are in law school. Waiting impatiently.

  29. Rob N. Hood August 7, 2011 at 7:35 am #

Wow, really Pauly boy?! I guess you wouldn’t be able to recognize thoughtfulness or thoroughness if it crept up and bit you. Par for your right-wing course though… same old rote responses from you guys. Nothing except superficial narcissistic thinking and thinly veiled animosity.

  30. Joe August 8, 2011 at 10:36 pm #

You seem to duck questions. Is that what you are trained to do?

  31. Rob N. Hood August 9, 2011 at 1:56 pm #

  33. Rob N. Hood August 11, 2011 at 2:56 pm #

    Yeah, Joe… it’s a secret… don’t tell, ok?!
