In the LA Times, there was a story on Richard Muller’s invitation to DC to testify to congress about the Berkeley Project, which attempts to reconstruct global dataThe Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature study is led by physicist Richard Muller, a longtime critic of the scientific consensus on climate change, who plans to testify on the effort Thursday before the House Science Committee in the latest of several congressional inquiries on climate science since the GOP majority was seated. Temperature data from tens of thousands of weather stations across the globe, many of which have incomplete records, are “very contentious,” Muller said in an interview. “The skeptics are raising legitimate concerns.”

Muller and many of those who question the temperature data are drawn to the “urban heat island” phenomenon, maintaining that gauges may be registering latent heat from asphalt, concrete and other urban features. Over time, some weather stations that once recorded temperatures in rural areas have been surrounded by cities and suburbs. The Berkeley project is analyzing information from 39,000 stations -five times as many as the other groups, Muller said – and will address the fact that temperature data have been recorded at varying times of day.

The project also will put its calculations on the Internet in a “transparent” way, Muller said. Other scientists, he said, “put homogenized data online. They don’t put up the [software] tools that get you from the raw data to the homogenized data. How do they pick the [weather station] sites? That involves human judgment.”

“war”… nice word. Par for the course from the Right, huh? Sometimes it’s white-washed as discourse, or disagreement… but for you all it’s really all or nothing… a real war, on other Americans. Nice. Thanks. Not. [DELETE]

A war on terror not knowing your true enemy is not fun my friend. Hope that later this year it does not affect your family as well as mine. I’m always concerned and on guard. You should be as well and never take your adversary lightly. Trust me on that statement.

  3. Rob N. Hood says:

Ooooh, scary… we are influenced to be afraid, thus manipulated, by the real powers. These real powers care about you? Really, you believe that? If you do you are no different than many humans, gullible and easily frightened or manipulated. That is the key to their power over all of us, and you give it to them, very easily it seems. Too bad for real freedom, liberty, and happiness. Oh well.

  4. paul wenum says:

Oh well and til it confronts you.

  5. Rob N. Hood says:

    Won’t hold my breath.

  6. paul wenum says:

    Nor will I.

  7. Rob N. Hood says:

    That makes sense. Not.

  8. Rob N. Hood says:

Obama gave the “war on terror” a big black eye (pardon the pun)…

I have searched – in vain, shockingly enough – to find any regressive pundit who had anything seriously positive to say about the president’s obliteration of Osama bin Laden.

In a sane world, the lack of right-wing acknowledgement of a job well done would not be such a quixotic-to-the-point-of-being-absurd proposition. I mean, after all, aren’t the folks on the right the ones who have been banging the terrorism drum for a decade now? Aren’t they the folks who adore military solutions to American foreign policy problems? Haven’t they been using 9/11 to justify every imaginable policy, including even tax cuts? Aren’t these exactly the folks among all of us who should be most gaga that Osama now swims with the fishies in the Indian Ocean?

Yes, yes, yes and yes. In a sane world, that is. In our world, on the other hand, this event was a disaster for such folks, who don’t actually give a damn about national security anyhow, but have made whole careers out of pretending otherwise. But it makes for a good scare tactic and excuse to keep funneling so much of our money to the military, and in getting the right-wing vote. A trifecta for the Republicans. Throw in guns, gays, and God and you really hit a home run. Off course guns and gays are also about fear. God too maybe?

It is apparent that you have not read previous posts and if you did you only read what you deem in agreement. Read my previous posts about Obama and Osama. I’m left handed but I must say you are to my far left in your posts.

  10. Rob N. Hood says:

So now you are a professional pundit? Since when? It is you who needs to read more carefully. It’s now far Left to give credit where credit is due?! Would you all, and the media, act the same way of Bush had done his job and killed Osama? Just another average day, no biggy right? There would have been no end to the Republicans patting themselves on the back and loving up Bushy. The media would have jumped on that band wagon, in a heartbeat, too.

It’s just like St. Ronald Reagan used to say on the sign-off for a weekly TV show: “At GE, progress is our most important product.” Isn’t GE now one of the few big MSM owners now? Besides being a big “defense” (war) contractor? Yes and yes. Their idea of progress is very odd, in my opinion. Progress for them, but not for the rest of us. Is that patriotic? I don’t think so.

  11. paul wenum says:

If you read any previous post I praised President Obama in what he did and I’m proud as hell! Cannot you read, or do you read only what fits your mindset? Man, you are oblivious to all trained thought.

  12. Rob N. Hood says:

Paul… it’s not ALL ABOUT YOU. I was referring to PUNDITS, not YOU!!!!! How else can I say that????!!!!!! The right’s ego-centricity is on display front and center whenever Paul posts a comment, or so it seems. So thank you Paul, for that.

  13. paul wenum says:

By the way have you read the news lately? I sense you have never read a newspaper? Ooops, the technical side, only the internet that you prefer with the Soros sites that never bring up what conservatives said positively about Obama’s actions? Like Osama BL, you must still live in a cave or you definitely do not read much absent Soros. Strongly suggest that you research him further or are one of his minions? Trust it is the latter.

  14. Rob N. Hood says:

Tell me that date, publication, and author of your affable sources. If you dare.

  15. paul wenum says:

My God, are you Katie Coric or whatever her name is? Typical Alyinski.

  16. Rob N. Hood says:

Sorry to challenge you. Don’t you attack me for not responding directly to you? I guess you are special and can have your cake and eat it to. Typical Righty.

  17. paul wenum says:

A simple answer is all that was was asked. Not bloviating. Simple question.

  18. Rob N. Hood says:

And I asked the question… or did you forget that part….? I guess so. Pay attention. Or stop dithering, It’s annoying.

  19. Rob N. Hood says:

I say again, I know of and who Soros is… as I do many “famous” people, etc. But I am not an expert on his or too many others either. So what is your point?

  20. Rob N. Hood says:

That I should be, in your opinion? Or that I am lying and I really am an expert on Soros? Why would I lie about such an inane thing as that either way?

  21. paul wenum says:

Your an “Expert” on people on the right but you have no knowledge “famous” people on the left? I find that amusing or a direct contradiction. Did you attend one of his classes? Curious.

  22. Rob N. Hood says:

    OMG…

  23. paul wenum says:

No I’m not God. Only God is. Answer please.

  24. Rob N. Hood says:

I was perhaps addressing the real God, and not you… or are you that vain and self absorbed…??? Wait, don’t answer that. You just did… This pissing contest with you is really boring. You are winning thought Paul. You will be able to take credit for driving me off this site, shen that happens, and probably soon. Your inanities are so maddening and childish I can’t take much more. So congratulations, of sorts. Personally I wouldn’t feel proud about that, but you can if you want to. I think you will want to.

  25. paul wenum says:

Please simply answer a basic question. Is that so hard? It is if you are instructed not to.. Interesting how you dodge, duck and weave just like people I chase. If you leave this site don’t blame me. I never ever back down to an opposing party. Left, Right et al.

  26. Rob N. Hood says:

No Paul, you will get all the credit for driving me (insane) and off this site. I might as well be texting withh junior high kids for all the logic and reason you present. And your inanity too. Congratulations. All your buds here will, and should, offer their appreciation.

  27. paul wenum says:

I’m waiting for a simple response to a direct question. If a client asks me a direct question I give direct answer as well as my staff. You duck and weave. Can tell you cannot answer or you simply choose not to answer because it may show your affiliation?

  28. Rob N. Hood says:

For crying out loud (I’m almost there). YOU KNOW MY “AFFILIATION”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am Left, Liberal, Progressive………….. so sue me, torture me, crucify me, whatever. This is so inane I can’t stand it much longer. You are close to winning the grand prize.

  29. paul wenum says:

You have answered the question, somewhat. Cherish the people that died so that we could have this discourse that we enjoy now and in the future. My flag is outside but must take it down and fold it, it’s beginning to rain.

  30. Rob N. Hood says:

If there was a prize for inanity… actually there is. Driving me off this site for good.

  31. paul wenum says:

Only you, my friend, will drive yourself off this site, not me or others. We are a free republic. You can chose anyway you wish. Take care.

  32. Rob N. Hood says:

Only now you profess humility. Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD).

  33. paul wenum says:

    Your choice, not mine.

  34. Rob N. Hood says:

? Ok…. except that makes no sense. As you say- typical.

  35. Rob N. Hood says:

Oh, I get it now- my choice to stop visiting this site. I was slightly confused because you failed to comment directly to my post, which is very typical of you. That’s ok, though. I’m used to it by now, sort of. And I know you believe yourself to be the epitome of humility and good graces…

  36. paul wenum says:

According to you we are always wrong when we disagree. It will never change with you and as stated. the Soros crowd is training your type quite well with one exception, knowledge and facts before them.

  37. Rob N. Hood says:

My “training” involves using the brain God gave me, effectively.

  38. paul wenum says:

Bye or should I say Pa-ka.

  39. paul wenum says:

Your “Training involves using the brain “God” gave me”? You must, according to your posts, must be a republican I assume?

  40. Rob N. Hood says:

uhhh.. yes Paul…. you got me again. Only Republicans are true christians, etc. and it was shameful of me to bring God into the issue… please forgive me.

  41. paul wenum says:

You proclaim it, live with it.

  42. Rob N. Hood says:

You really don’t recognize sarcasm? What is your point really?

  43. paul wenum says:

Suggest you quit your hate speeches and cut to the chase. I know sarcasm reading your consistent posts that usually are sarcastic and trying to demoralize the person that disagrees. By the way, that is a (Saul A) tactic that I know quite well. You seem to be a well versed student.

  44. Rob N. Hood says:

    Whatever.

  45. paul wenum says:

My God, my favorite word! Have a sweat shirt with that on the back and wear it proudly when having discussions with friends. Good word!

  46. Rob N. Hood says:

So glad for you. Simple pleasures for….

  47. paul wenum says:

    I’m a “Simple Man.”

  48. Rob N. Hood says:

    within quotes…and capitalized…?

  49. paul wenum says:

I am a “Simple Man,” also similar to “The Quiet Man,” and you would know nothing for which I speak.

  50. Rob N. Hood says:

Then why even mention it? Is that rational/logical? (answer- No)
