Maybe I was referring above to the those who are promoting global warming. I didn’t say, did I? Nope. Just a comment about human nature and those with power. You all jumped to conclsuions and attacked me. What does that say about you? Maybe Proverbs 18 verses 1-2 says it best. I agree with you on that.

So the study you cite did not actually study “powerful” people. They studied volunteers who were told that they were either leaders or subordinates. And then they were told to find $100 bucks that was hidden nearby, and half were told to put it back, and the other half was told to keep it and lie about it.
Gee I wonder if she said this to the volunteers before the study:

“We know that high-powered people do crazy, bad stuff,” she said. “I think reminding a person that the behavior is bad can get them to stop engaging in those transgressions.”

So, were the results of the experiment definitive?

“How does this all translate into the real world? Carney said the research doesn’t show that power leads to lying, but it does suggest dishonesty comes easier to those in power.”

Oh, it “suggests” dishonesty comes eisier to those in power.
I am left wondering how many times this experiment was duplicated. Was it peer reviewed? Does this even rise to the level of a “study”?
So, what we have here is an experiment, with the experimentors having a pre-concieved idea of what the experiment should show, and the subjects of the experiment being volunteers who were assigned either as leaders or subordinates and not actually being either!

There’s old saying: power corrupts. And a new Columbia Business School study titled, “People with Power are Better Liars,” finds there may be some truth behind the cliché.

“People in power are able to lie better,” said Dana Carney, a management professor at Columbia Business School and one of the co-authors of the study. “It just doesn’t hurt them as much to do it.”
