Is a New Day Dawning in America?

Scott Brown’s historic victory on Tuesday in Massachusetts has a lot of people asking the question whether there’s a new day dawning in American politics.  This video does a pretty good job of framing the issue.

Hooraw! Mass is but a taste of things to come this fall. In some states it is predicted that a republican could win the mid-term by being fiscally conservative and simply registering as a candidate, since the people are so fed up with the spend-crazy administration. And this could be Obama’s one and only term.

  2. Mr. Bob January 21, 2010 at 7:31 am #

Republicans will eventually get us to where Obama wants to take us. Itll just take them ALOT longer.

  3. Rob N. Hood January 21, 2010 at 9:21 am #

    I predicted Obama was a one-termer. Or if I haven’t, I am now.

I’ve been around for a good many elections, now. Experience *shoulda* taught me to be utterly cynical about the horribly-misnamed “Public Servants” we send to DC. Nonetheless, in 2008, smelling blood in the water from the total catastrophe of the W dysAdministration, I eagerly jumped on the Obama bandwagon.

I *knew* going in, that BO was a centrist – but I admired his attempts to restore civility to the American Political Process. I even admired his trying to include the Repugnicans in the legislative process when the Democratic majorities in both chambers did not require it – and the Repugs were disinterested in participating.

BUT, GOODGODALMIGHTY!!! Concerning the continuing US misadventure in the Middle East, and the Department of Defense(also horribly misnamed!) $$Budget, BO is living out W’s third *damn term!! As regards actively assisting the Wall Street robber barons to have their way with the American Public, BO is ZERO CHANGE from W !! With this recent Health Care Reform Fiasco, which shoulda been a no-brainer in a civilized democracy, BO conceded everything the Repugs asked, and STILL falls short, despite his still-sizeable majorities in Congress. This was/is f**king INCOMPREHENSIBLE to me!!

So, yeah. I’m humiliated that I thought little ol’ me, in combination with several other millions of citizens across America could ever strike a meaningful blow – or even a glancing blow – against America’s Corporate Overlords and their legions of Lobbyists.

    ALL HAIL THE CORPORATE OVERLORDS!!!

P.S. if you think the Repugs are going to save this “Democratic” Republic you are even more gullible than me.

  4. paul wenum January 22, 2010 at 1:34 am #

Gullible you are my friend. Deal with it.

Really Paul? Wow. Anyway your side won another major victory. In fact it is icing on the fascist cake- the final nail in the coffin for democracy:

Yesterday, from within the dark isolation of the Supreme Court, these five men pulled off a black-robed coup against the American people’s democratic authority. In an unprecedented perversion of judicial power, this court cabal has decreed that corporations have a free-speech “right” to dip into their corporate coffers and spend unlimited sums of money to elect or defeat candidates of their choosing.

Corporate interests already had too much money power over our political system.

No other group in America comes anywhere near the spending clout that this relatively small clutch of wealthy special interests wields over our elections and government. So it’s ludicrous for anyone – much less Supreme Court judges – to argue that the corporate voice is a victim of political “censorship.” This is not merely judicial activism, it is judicial radicalism.

Thomas Jefferson warned about the dangerous rise of corporate power, declaring that must “crush in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations.” Today, I’m sure that founding patriots like Jefferson are not simply spinning in their graves at the Supreme Court’s surrender to this aristocracy – they’re trying to claw their way out of their graves to throttle all five of the traitors.

We MUST fight back. Many good groups are working on this issue, and we all have to get involved to fight against this corporate take over of our political system. Public Citizen has a petition we can sign. Common Cause is asking us to contact your congressperson and make sure they have signed on to the Fair Elections Now Act.

Rob N Hood – fantastic Jefferson quote, never heard that before although as I’m a Brit it’s not surprising perhaps. I’m going to be quoting that within a week to someone, you bet. Here, we have just had another cash-for-government-access scandal break this a.m. so we should have done some ‘crushing’ of our own.

  6. paul wenum January 24, 2010 at 12:48 am #

    The Soros group is salivating.

  7. Hal Groar January 24, 2010 at 12:53 pm #

Rob I think you have things backwards here. Paul is not the Fascist, BO is trying to take over Corporations. And as far as the Supreme Court goes, I happen to agree with the decision. Why should GE (owner of many media outlets) be able to decide whats good for the general public and Colgate be barred by law from sponsoring and ad? The only thing I might add is we need a “Full disclosure law” then let them spend to their hearts delight.

  8. Rob N. Hood January 27, 2010 at 1:32 pm #

You are very foolish. There is no evidence re: BO taking over anything, except for GM, but he just saved GM from its much deserved demise. So he’s out saving capitalism, just like FDR did and idiots like you railed against FDR just as you are now against BO. Get this one thing straight PLEASE! BO is a corporate captialist just like all the rest- you are too damn blind or dumb to know that you should be so happy to have him as Prez. He’s exactly what you want in a Prez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for Liberals like me, we are devastated that he sold us out, just like all the rest have done.

  9. Dan McGrath January 27, 2010 at 1:51 pm #

Propping up failed corporations isn’t “saving capitalism.” It’s the opposite! Government bailing out favored companies is an anathema to capitalism. The market spoke. GM should have been replaced by a better, leaner company, but then the unions might have lost some power – can’t have that! Taxpayers to the rescue of UAW!

    • Rob N. Hood January 28, 2010 at 7:57 am #

Dan it’s only one (GM) out of MANY that we the people could have taken over. You are hysterical and off the mark as usual. Plus Obama hasn’t interferred with GM at all like he could have. He will hand it back over to provate hands ASAP- wanna bet on that? And the unions have lost out, as usual. You sure like to paint the world your color of choosing. Weird.

      • Dan McGrath January 28, 2010 at 9:23 am #

Pah! Obama handed over 1/5 of ownership in GM straight to the UAW, structured guarantees for union pensions/contracts, while stiffing private investors (bond holders) in the company and creditors.

  10. Dan McGrath January 27, 2010 at 1:54 pm #

Soros is actually probably beside himself. His vast network of 527, C3 and C4 groups gave liberals the edge in political communications. Now that edge is blunted. The people (and yes, corporations) can speak for themselves. No more need for the non-profit proxies.

  11. paul wenum January 28, 2010 at 12:42 am #

Dan, he and his group will find a way around it as they always do.

  12. Rob N. Hood January 28, 2010 at 8:05 am #

Yes, you should be happy- the large corporations are just another (big) step closer to ruling the world unfettered. You all think that’s a good thing. The past 30 years have proven you wrong, and yet you persist. In other words that is insanity. Oh well, I guess the USA (and the world) must fall further into the dark abyss before dolts like you all will get a clue. Will you ever is the biggest question of all. Maybe you will blame Liberals and Progressive no matter how much contrary evidence stares in the face. It has for 30 years and you still cheer lead for the policies that are killing the once great middle class of the USA. That great experiment for true democracy, forced from the fascist elite by the great FDR, mainly, is crumbling, year by year. Once it is gone completely (very soon now) you all will (maybe) wake up and say, Hey what the hell just happened?! And progressives have been trying to school you for years….

  13. Rob N. Hood January 28, 2010 at 8:06 am #

Or maybe you will finally be happy in an offically overt Fascist State….? We shall find out I’m afraid.

  14. Paul Wenum January 29, 2010 at 9:48 pm #

They call themselves “Progressives.” I believe it should be “regressives.”

  15. Rob N. Hood January 31, 2010 at 6:21 pm #

There you go again. Trying to change reality to suit your sensibilities- we are Progressive, you can call yourself whatever the hell you want. AND everyonje esle seems to understand that it is the rich and powerful “who” find ways around the rules and laws re: campaign finance. As in.. Duh…

A vast majority of the middle class dreams of a career in a large corporation because, in America, it’s where the greatest social benefits are offered, healthcare, retirement packages, and vacations. These are all the benefits that the government provides its citizens in European democracies. As this trend continues, American becomes less and less a democracy and more a corporatist welfare state.

The broad chasm between what the paid pundits say and what they do reminds us of the Communist propaganda about how everyone must sacrifice today for a greater, more equitable tomorrow. A free democracy is mere myth when corporations overrule the democratic processes.

“I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a
trial of strength and bid defiance to the laws of our country.” –Thomas Jefferson, 1812

The U.S. Senate and Congress (and each new President) meekly kneel to the will of the corporations at the cost of the will of the people. And there are people like Paul, et al who will apparently crazily fight to the death to defend that status quo. Go figure human intelligence.

  16. paul wenum January 31, 2010 at 8:38 pm #

Quit the cut and paste routine. Think for yourself for once. Dan is right. By the way, there are no European Democracies.

  17. Rob N. Hood February 4, 2010 at 9:40 am #

You people are nuts. I know reading any reality that conflicts with your skewed paranioa must be difficult. So just dismiss it- that’ll work!

  18. paul wenum February 5, 2010 at 10:19 pm #

You are dismissed. Back to the end of the class. Try again my friend.

  19. Rob N. Hood February 7, 2010 at 4:51 pm #

    Javhol Mein Fuherer !

  20. Rob N. Hood February 7, 2010 at 4:53 pm #

    No European Democracies???!!! Really???!!!

Maybe you aliens should return to your own planet now. We’ve had enough of you meddling in our affairs.

  21. paul wenum February 7, 2010 at 11:03 pm #

Not a true democratic society. Bye the way, we are a republic. They may say they are democratic but I have been there (Europe) numerous times, and they are not! Have you????
