Scott Brown’s historic victory on Tuesday in Massachusetts has a lot of people asking the question whether there’s a new day dawning in American politics. This video does a pretty good job of framing the issue.
Hooraw! Mass is but a taste of things to come this fall. In some states it is predicted that a republican could win the mid-term by being fiscally conservative and simply registering as a candidate, since the people are so fed up with the spend-crazy administration. And this could be Obama’s one and only term.
I predicted Obama was a one-termer. Or if I haven’t, I am now.
I’ve been around for a good many elections, now. Experience *shoulda* taught me to be utterly cynical about the horribly-misnamed “Public Servants” we send to DC. Nonetheless, in 2008, smelling blood in the water from the total catastrophe of the W dysAdministration, I eagerly jumped on the Obama bandwagon.
I *knew* going in, that BO was a centrist – but I admired his attempts to restore civility to the American Political Process. I even admired his trying to include the Repugnicans in the legislative process when the Democratic majorities in both chambers did not require it – and the Repugs were disinterested in participating.
BUT, GOODGODALMIGHTY!!! Concerning the continuing US misadventure in the Middle East, and the Department of Defense(also horribly misnamed!) $$Budget, BO is living out W’s third *damn term!! As regards actively assisting the Wall Street robber barons to have their way with the American Public, BO is ZERO CHANGE from W !! With this recent Health Care Reform Fiasco, which shoulda been a no-brainer in a civilized democracy, BO conceded everything the Repugs asked, and STILL falls short, despite his still-sizeable majorities in Congress. This was/is f**king INCOMPREHENSIBLE to me!!
So, yeah. I’m humiliated that I thought little ol’ me, in combination with several other millions of citizens across America could ever strike a meaningful blow – or even a glancing blow – against America’s Corporate Overlords and their legions of Lobbyists.

Yesterday, from within the dark isolation of the Supreme Court, these five men pulled off a black-robed coup against the American people’s democratic authority. In an unprecedented perversion of judicial power, this court cabal has decreed that corporations have a free-speech “right” to dip into their corporate coffers and spend unlimited sums of money to elect or defeat candidates of their choosing.
Corporate interests already had too much money power over our political system.
No other group in America comes anywhere near the spending clout that this relatively small clutch of wealthy special interests wields over our elections and government. So it’s ludicrous for anyone – much less Supreme Court judges – to argue that the corporate voice is a victim of political “censorship.” This is not merely judicial activism, it is judicial radicalism.
Thomas Jefferson warned about the dangerous rise of corporate power, declaring that must “crush in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations.” Today, I’m sure that founding patriots like Jefferson are not simply spinning in their graves at the Supreme Court’s surrender to this aristocracy – they’re trying to claw their way out of their graves to throttle all five of the traitors.
We MUST fight back. Many good groups are working on this issue, and we all have to get involved to fight against this corporate take over of our political system. Public Citizen has a petition we can sign. Common Cause is asking us to contact your congressperson and make sure they have signed on to the Fair Elections Now Act.

Propping up failed corporations isn’t “saving capitalism.” It’s the opposite! Government bailing out favored companies is an anathema to capitalism. The market spoke. GM should have been replaced by a better, leaner company, but then the unions might have lost some power – can’t have that! Taxpayers to the rescue of UAW!

A vast majority of the middle class dreams of a career in a large corporation because, in America, it’s where the greatest social benefits are offered, healthcare, retirement packages, and vacations. These are all the benefits that the government provides its citizens in European democracies. As this trend continues, American becomes less and less a democracy and more a corporatist welfare state.
The broad chasm between what the paid pundits say and what they do reminds us of the Communist propaganda about how everyone must sacrifice today for a greater, more equitable tomorrow. A free democracy is mere myth when corporations overrule the democratic processes.
