Survey Says: Americans Not Worried About Global Warming

From the Wall Street Journal

A new poll out today on Americans’ attitudes about climate change presents sobering findings for those that favor aggressive action to curb U.S. emissions of greenhouse gases.

The survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press finds a sharp decline over the past year in the percentage of Americans who see solid evidence that global temperatures are rising. According to the survey, conducted between Sept. 30 and Oct. 4 among 1,500 adults reached on cell phones and landlines, fewer respondents also see global warming as a very serious problem; 35% say that today, down from 44% in April 2008.  The survey also points to a decline in the proportion of Americans who say global temperatures are rising as a result of human activity. Just 36% say that currently, down from 47% last year.

Edit: S/b “Americans” (plural) in title.

Can we hope that common sense and actual science will triumph over venal alarmism?

  2. Maid Marion October 22, 2009 at 11:30 pm #

Of course we’re not worried about global warming, every time it gets cold somebody makes a joke. I’d prefer they spent more time on the national debt, getting people back to work and not taxing the devil out of us. Frivolous hearings about what’s printed on our money, steroid use in baseball and whether or not someone shouts “you lie.”

There is no consensus on global warming among scientists and as the saying goes, Opinons are like assholes, everybody has one; and most of them stink.

So, whether it’s true or not and no matter who’s data you read or what light bulb you use…bickering over global warming is the least of my worries.

It is what it is. Climate changes naturally.

  4. Andy Pryke October 23, 2009 at 4:46 am #

They’ve done a couple of reports on these surveys. Their July 2009 one (http://people-press.org/report/?pageid=1550 ) gives a break down by political affiliation: Overall 49% of the public believe “Warming is due to human activity”, whereas 74% of liberal democrats believe! They also surveyed scientists for their views as a comparison.

It is not really an accident that after the Fairness Doctrine was abandoned during the Reagan Administration there was a surge of new far Right voices on the radio. Those with deep pockets in the Conservative movement needed a place to regularly present a different view of things. It was a smart move as it allowed the true believers to have an alternate theory on the events of the day.

This all came into its own during the Clinton Administration. While it was not enough to topple a popular president in a time of economic growth, it was enough to wrest control of the House and Senate as well as pick up many State level seats in 1994. This under the radar stoking of the base provided a cohesion which the Democrats who were having their own internecine fights to be swept out of power.

Using the whipped up scandals and the one real one of the Clinton Presidency, they fanned the flames of their base with lurid tales of drug dealing out of the White House and the supposed murder of Vince Foster. As the Republicans overplayed their cards with impeachment, the next step in the echo chamber was coming to life, Fox News. From its inception it was clear they were pointed towards the farthest right of the right. Any network that has to tell you over and over and over they are “Fair and Balanced” is anything but.

The election of George Bush with its use of the media to present a skewed view of the public’s concern in the “Brooks Bothers Riot” was another step forward. Then the tragedy of 9/11 catapulted the level of fear and hate mongering to new heights. The rhetoric was cranked up to 11 and stayed there in the Right Wing Echo Chamber. Anyone who disagreed to any degree with President Bush was called a traitor. The Echo Chamber was used to smear even musicians as the Dixie Chicks found out.

On the internet new and even more fervently Right Wing websites sprang up and became enormously popular with the “America, Fuck Yeah!” crowd. Now the Echo Chamber was complete, from newspapers to television to the internet there was a place where those on the Right could find news and views that matched their own, and amplified them It was incredibly effective, for a while. It allowed the Republican Party to control the White House and Congress all at once. It helped them spread memes of voter fraud and even leak the name of a covert CIA operative with only the loss of one Chief of Staff to show for it.
However there is a cost. The Echo Chamber was always a high emotion place with drugs, murder and treason being the opening bet, not the final one. The base it had been used to inflame has become addicted to the high of hate and fear. Like all addicts, the old level of stimulation is not enough, there has to be a higher and higher level of stimulation for it give that same high. This has lead the base to become more and more radicalized and more and more prone to calling anyone who they don’t agree 100% with traitors.

Another cost is the fact the core of the Republican political elite has bought the premise that any news which does not come from Fox or World Net Daily or the Editorial Pages of the Wall Street Journal and Washington Post is suspect and can not be trusted. This is very bad as all of these organizations do not have a political party to run, they have a balance sheet to look after. They will continue to feed more and more sensational stories and fan the flames of crazy ideas to keep their readers and watchers coming back for more. They are the pushers feeding the Republican base it drug of choice, fear and hate.
This leads to what looks like flat derangement from the elected Republicans ; whether it is Rep. Michelle Bachman spouting off making pronouncements that health care reform will result in “sex clinics in schools”or Orly Taitz constantly pushing the idea the President is not a citizen or the most recent heinousness of four members of the House of Representative thinking that Muslim American pages are somehow spy’s because of their religion.

To the Dog these people are not being cynical, they really believe the crazy crap they are spouting. It comes from the fact they get their news from an echo chamber which has very little contact with the real world. Anyone can become programmed to see the world a certain way if they are never, ever, exposed to other points of view. Since one of the defining aspects of Republicans has been their discipline, there is even less chance they will seek out differing views.
Worse for their political future, is the activated base that is ready to brand anyone a Republican in name only (Rhino) if they speak out for a new direction. Just this week we have seen one of the most conservative Senators in the Senate Lindsey Graham being heckled and accused of betraying the Party merely for being willing to think about climate change legislation.

All of this leads to the conclusion the Republicans have become victims of the very thing which allowed their ascendancy in the first place the Echo Chamber. They have trained their base to need more and more hyperbolic accusations and demons to be satisfied. This has lead them to have to say and support things which those outside of their base find increasingly crazy. It drives Independents and Moderates away from the Party of Crazy, because they do not get all of their news from inside the Echo Chamber they know many of the things they are being told by the Republicans are just not true. However the Republican elite can not move away from this disastrous course because the Echo Chamber is where all of their core supporters get their news. If they go against the noise of their own creation, they run the risk of being branded traitors to their cause and summarily dumped. Just look at the heat that is being applied to Sen. Snowe over her support of the Baucus Bill. The money making Echo Chamber is not going to help the elected Republicans, because to do so would cost them viewers and money.

All this leaves the Republican Party on a downward spiral. They can’t get free of the Echo Chamber, but by staying in it and with their base, they become less and less relevant to the nation, since their view barely touches reality in any fashion. Until and unless they manage to break out of this trap of their own making, it seems pretty clear they will continue to become less effective as the level of rhetoric required to satisfy the fear and hate addicted base only gets higher and higher.

It’s amazing how you stay current with Liberal fad of the day Rob. Bash Fox news and talk radio. Hmm…. let’s see. Who else is bashing Fox news and talk radio?

      http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/10/18/white-house-escalates-war-fox-news-1925819282/
“The White House is calling on other news organizations to isolate and alienate Fox News as it sends out top advisers to rail against the cable channel as a Republican Party mouthpiece.”

Wow! it’s as if you and the white house are of one mind, right on the same page.
This really shows your true colors Rob. And you try to present yourself as being an open minded guy. If that’s true, why are you marching in lockstep with the President there Rob? Isn’t he just a puppet of the Builderburgers, the trilatteral comission, and the world bank?
Come on Rob, you can’t have it both ways. If you really believe all that conspiracy garbage, you should be skeptical of everything he does. Including his attacks on America’s #1 cable news network, and radio’s 1st, 2nd, and 3rd most listened to talk show hosts.
Instead you jump on the bandwagon!!!!!
So once again, you must be playing devil’s advocate. Right? Not!!!!!!
I think I know what’s going on. You and your ilk are loosing the debate, so now you are doubling your efforts to SHUT UP THE OPPOSITION.
I have not read Rules For Radicals, but how much you wanna bet this is one of the tacticts outlined in that book?

  6. Stork October 23, 2009 at 12:11 pm #

    RobinNHood,
Why the long republican bashing post?
I thought we agreed that the Echo Chamber comes in two opposing varieties, causing division among the people.
The two seemingly opposing sides dividing and conquering in a flanking maneuver.

    • Dave October 24, 2009 at 12:06 am #

I’ve got to agree. I supported Rob the other day, since he seemed to call out the screamers on the site that just want to use the word “evil” and “Obama” in the same sentence with no other point to make. It’s not at all productive either way. I mean, how do you have a conversation with that, with people who’ve already made up their minds no matter what facts or logic can be put in front of them? There seem to be about 5-6 folks here ready for discussion. The rest, it seems, have already made up their mind….what was the topic again?

  7. Stork October 23, 2009 at 12:40 pm #

The following site covers the subject of climate change more evenly than I have seen before: http://www.climatechangefacts.info
I understand that this site is confronting the global governance aspect for the most part.

    • Neil F. AGWD October 23, 2009 at 8:53 pm #

That does look like a good site from a cursory look. But, how often have you been here at GCS? If you keep looking you will find that a lot more than the global governance aspects of the global warming debate are covered here. It’s just that the global governance aspect is what is currently in the news. So all I’m saying is reserve that judgment for now. We talk about every aspect imaginable. The discussions here are like the weather, if you don’t like it stick around, it’ll change.

      • Stork October 23, 2009 at 9:23 pm #

I Didn’t mean to say that other aspects are being discussed, sorry if that’s how it sounded.
I just thought that, that site offered a pretty balanced viewpoint of the issue also, not instead of this site.
I see it as important for all ascpects of any subject to be made public. We need knowlege from everywhere, and I appreciate sites like this that allow all of us to discuss these issues.
        Thanks for this site 🙂

        • Neil F. AGWD October 23, 2009 at 11:19 pm #

I couldn’t agree with you more!!! Glad you stopped in.

      • Stork October 23, 2009 at 9:26 pm #

Oh, and Neil, I have only been on this site for a fews day now.

        • Neil F. AGWD October 23, 2009 at 11:28 pm #

Hey Stork, Iv’e been back to that website you brought to our attention, and I’m liking it very much. It looks like it will be an exellent resource and I just added it to my favorites. Thanks!

  8. Rob N. Hood October 23, 2009 at 4:43 pm #

Why? Because they deserve and need to be bashed. That’s why. And because it’s the truth.

    • Neil F. AGWD October 23, 2009 at 8:43 pm #

Truth?!?!?!?!?! Come on you were convinced that the world’s temps were rising, yet you just recently conceeded to me that you could not show me where the world’s temps have risen.
Truth, HA! You wouldn’t know the truth if it came up and bit you on your nose. You have no concept of truth. You only have your political ideology that steers you.
I already know from our history that you don’t care if global warming is real or not, you just want the socio-economic changes that are being proposed to happen, the truth be dammed. So don’t pretend like you care about the truth. I know that you don’t.

      • Mark Lamont Brown October 31, 2009 at 8:08 am #

        Neil,
Dialectic is no more ideology than Big Al is a genuine tree hugger. The Hoodmeister probably does not even understand why he dislikes views contrary to his own projected (on this discussion board at least) viewpoints. Take comfort in the lessons of history, everything that was powerful in the renaissance period stood against change. The truth won in the end. The moment somebody declares that his opposition deserves to be bashed, he has lost all credibility. Pure and simple. But heck I can sympathise…

    • Mark Lamont Brown October 30, 2009 at 7:06 pm #

Said Like a true Stalinist, or Trotskyist, take your pick.

  9. Paul Wenum October 23, 2009 at 7:28 pm #

Robby Boy, when did you stop beating you mother? Always bashing. Vile continues to spew from your mouth. Get on with the subject at hand. People are seeing the light and it is definitely not the dim light you claim to shine. Your batteries are wearing thin and going dim, as usual.

  10. Neil F. AGWD October 23, 2009 at 8:59 pm #

Hey kids, I got a form letter back from Al Franken’s office. It’s a little long to post the whole thing, but here’s a taste:

    “Dear Neil,

Thanks for contacting me about the United Nations and climate change legislation. I appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns with me on this important issue for Minnesota and the nation.

One of the reasons I support comprehensive energy legislation is that Minnesota is uniquely positioned to become a global leader in clean energy production. Whether it’s harnessing the wind in Pipestone, growing the next generation of bio-fuels in Willmar, or tapping into geothermal energy in Appleton, Minnesota is ready to lead.”

See, I told you all that they don’t get it.

    • Neil F. AGWD October 24, 2009 at 6:20 am #

      I know it’s a typo, but that’s 18,000 years from now. That’s kind of a long wait!!!!
I know you mean 2010, but I did get a good chuckle out of that one. Thanks.

  14. paul wenum October 23, 2009 at 11:51 pm #

Stork, Stay on the site. However, do not let the ranters that go on forever about whatever get in your thought process. Be yourself, not like others, Agree? Glad to see a new perspective.

  15. Lone Wolf October 24, 2009 at 8:11 am #

Most of you probably already know that Robin’s latest long post was copied and pasted from another source. None of it is his.

    • Dan McGrath October 24, 2009 at 12:49 pm #

Hey, Lone Wolf. Haven’t seen you post in a while. Welcome back to the new and improved madness.

    • Neil F. AGWD October 25, 2009 at 12:35 am #

Been down that trail long ago. Rob doesn’t feel like he needs to source his material. I forget what he said about it, but it was along the lines of; it doesn’t matter because he’s just trying to teach us all something, or it doesn’t matter who said it, it’s just said to evoke discussion. Or, some such nonsense like that. I just now accept and expect Rob to do that. I used to search for his sources, and found a lot of them too, but that was just a waste of time. Of course the credability of his sources are questionable, at best.

  16. Rob N. Hood October 24, 2009 at 5:54 pm #

Never claimed it was “mine.” It is reality and needs to be shared. That’s all. Only poeple who are intimidated by reality focus on such meaningless issues. Also funny, Neil, how you berate me for focusing on the political and then you, and Pauly Boy, launch right into that yourselves. Why are you so consistently hypocritical? That’s what I “don’t get.” Do you not understand what that term means, and how it reflects upon your entire presence, and reduces whatever credibility you may otherwise have? Nope I guess not since you’ve been doing it since I first came here and pointed that out to you. Oh well. You guys are the laughing stock of our country, people around the world can’t even believe there are people like you for real.

    • Neil F. AGWD October 25, 2009 at 10:58 am #

What? Rob, seriously, I think you need some couch time with a psychiatrist. For one thing I’ve never tried to present myself as some kind of moderate, as you have. I am right of center, never claimed otherwise. You, on the other hand have claimed that you are a centrist moderate, and you sometimes like to play devil’s advocate. Which is complete bullcrap. You are about as far Left as they get. that’s why I bash you, because you have claimed to be Centrist and you are not. You are disingenuous.
As far as that long rant you posted above, that you claim is the reality and needs to be shared. I laugh. because it’s not reality it’s OPINION. And just because it’s an OPINION that you share with the author, who is still unknown btw, does not make it reality.
I bet you think I’m constantly glued to Fox News. Don’t you? Would it suprise you to learn that I don’t like O’Riley, Hannety, or Huckabe? So I do not watch their shows. I don’t mind Beck, but I have never watched a full hour of his show because sometimes he get’s a little whiney, and I change the channel, or turn off the TV. I get news from a lot of sources. Fox is ONE of them. But being an informed viewer I understand that the spin is going to come from the Right, just as I know when I watch CNN that the spin is going to come from the Left. What is your problem with opposing viewpoints? I think it’s good to have access to them. You don’t see me wanting to shut CNN down. Do you?
But no, you are afraid of any viewpoint that challenges your own because you can’t win a debate in the arena of ideas. So the solution that you like is the Saul Alinski approach i.e. isolate, demonize, and destroy.
The truth is that the echo chamber that the Left-wing media had was destroyed by Rush Limbaugh, and Fox news, and you want it back so you can be wrapped in a cacoon of comfortable Liberal numbness once again. The fear and hatred does not come from the Right, and Fox News. It resides on the Left, and in your heart and mind, and it’s eating you up. You need some serious couch time.

  17. Rob N. Hood October 24, 2009 at 9:31 pm #

Neil, I have been, of course, against Faux News long before this, not just since Obama finally was brave enough to call a spade a spade. Fox News is not real news you know. It is a political arm of the Republican party, and everyone knows it. If you think it is a real news show, that speaks volumes about your cognitive abilities.

And in typical hypocritical fashion, you guys bash me for being political and then turn around and do the same. What is it about hypocrisy you don’t understand?

    • Neil F. AGWD October 25, 2009 at 12:56 am #

I don’t bash you for being political. I just think you’re wrong about everything.
I bet you have never even watched Fox News. I am assuming that you are talking about O’Riley, Beck, Hannity, and Huckabe. Yup, they are very political. But the regular news is the same news that comes off the wire from the AP and UPI.
So basically what you’re saying is that you’re for free speech…. unless it’s a point of view that you happen to disagree with.
I could say the same thing about CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN etc. etc. That they are political arms of the Democrat party, and demand that they shut up. But on the right, we are tolerant of other views.
That’s what you want, isn’t it? You don’t want debate, you want silence and blind obedience to your beliefs.
What I say to that is: [DELETED DUE TO GRATUITOUS USE OF FOUL LANGUAGE].

      • Neil F. AGWD October 25, 2009 at 9:37 pm #

Just curious, is there anybody else who doesn’t know that I typed “[DELETED DUE TO GRATUITOUS USE OF FOUL LANGUAGE]” as a joke? Because apperantly at least one person thought I was sensored. Just for the record I was not sensored. That post is exactly how I typed it.

        • Dan McGrath October 26, 2009 at 11:55 am #

Well, I got a kick out of it.

          • Neil F. AGWD October 26, 2009 at 11:41 pm #

Well, I thought it was funny. I thought I was the only one so thanks Dan.

  18. paul wenum October 25, 2009 at 12:39 am #

Robby Boy! I thought that you never had any “normal thought” and this confirms it. What a fake you are!!! Call Albert Gore. I like the word Albert. It probably ticks him off. Now I know why it takes you a few days to respond. You have to “read your script but it is still in the mail.” Sounds like companies I’m after!!! Your statements/comments are not your own. How much are they paying you? Just curious? I understand that Gore/Soros pays good Boy!

  19. Rob N. Hood October 25, 2009 at 6:59 pm #

You guys are pretty loony. I didn’t say you couldnt’ watch Faux News, I just made my opinion about it known. And as far as the other stations being Liberal, that’s a crock of crap and people with a brain know it. They are all owned by large (ie right-wing) corporations, and they just SEEM liberal because they aren’t as wackily extreme as Faux. You guys sure get riled up when someone even questions your sources of “infotainment.” Fact is, this is all pretty clear to see if you aren’t totally brain-washed or otherwise genticallty predisposed to extremism. Even Neil had to be censored above- Wow, and I thought you guys were so tolerant and understanding. Guess not, huh? And Neil, come on man, you have bashjed me for being political on this site, incessantly. Why do you guys lie or are you that out of touch with reality you don’t even know what you’ve done, even though it’s sitting here in black and white. I really don’t understand that, it’s kind of scary actually. I thought I was a bit out of the mainstream, but not anymore. Compared to you I am very boring and almost middle of the road. You guys are the extremists, and every country has them, unfortunately. We read about then in the newspapers every day. They just happen to be one or two steps more extreme than you guys. But I can see where you could be pushed over the edge. You don’t seem very stable.

    • Neil F. AGWD October 25, 2009 at 8:45 pm #

Wow! I am laughing so hard right now, it’s hard to type!

“I thought I was a bit out of the mainstream, but not anymore. Compared to you I am very boring and almost middle of the road.” -Rob

Delusional! You are, and have been, the biggest instigator and agitator on this site. And now you try to play the poor victim!?!?!?!

And as an example of how gullable you are, NO ONE sensored my post. I did that. It was a joke. And it was an expression of what I think about that, whithout actually having to say it. You actually thought that Dan censored my comments? C’mon, think about it. If Dan was going to censor my post, he would have pulled the whole thing and said something like “personal attacks and potty mouths will not be tolerated here!”
Also, I have every right to bash you for being political because 9 times out of 10 you post something that just totally bashes Conservatives and Republicans that has exactly zero to do with global warming. When I talk about political issues they have everything to do with the global warming issue, as in voting them out of office!!!! I say that because they are the ones pushing it.
It’s true I don’t trust Liberals, I make no secret of that, but if they weren’t pushing the global warming agenda you would never hear me mention them…..ever. Not here anyway. I don’t like Amway salesmen either, but notice I have never mentioned that because they’re not trying to force climate change legislation down our throats!!!!!!!!
But you on the other hand continuously post things that equate conservatives with Nazi’s and crap like that. Take the long unsourced rant you posted above. I saw climate change legislation mentioned 1 time in that whole thing. But that was not the point of the article. The point of the article is that the conservative base that watches fox news are a bunch of addicts addicted to fear and hate. And then you tout that as the truth that needs to be shared?
Now you’re calling us unstable extremists who can be easily pushed over the edge. And earlier you said there are people around the world that can’t believe people like us even exist for real!!!!
C’mon what do you expect? Us to say “OK, you’re right. I’m gonna go home now and think about what a horrible person I am, I’m such an idiot!!!”????
Wow! If that’s what you hope will happen, you truly do not understand people.

      • Dan McGrath October 26, 2009 at 11:59 am #

This comment has been edited. Keep personal attacks out! Disagree politely, please. Stick to issues and argue points, not personalities.

        • Neil F. AGWD October 26, 2009 at 11:49 pm #

What?!?!?! C’mon Dan. That was friendly advise! I really think that he needs what I suggested. But You’re the moderator and I shall abide by your decisions. Sorry, I will try to be more impersonal in my responses to the chief agitator.

    • Neil F. AGWD October 25, 2009 at 9:40 pm #

You know you distract me so much Rob. I just want to say: AGW is a lie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Rob N. Hood October 25, 2009 at 10:05 pm #

You are so clever Neil- so you didn’t get censored, well good for you. Ha ha… funny, I guess if you have a weird sense of humor. Please check out the Cap and Trade story- I uncovered some info that you will love to spin and/or be in denial about. And I’m sorry Neil but I am more mainstream than you- if nothing else the last election proves it. However, I actually hate to say that because I use to take pride in being a little radical. Maybe this country is indeed catching up to the 21st Century. But guys like you seem stuck in the 15th, at best.

And oh, I would define rant as what you posted above. Just sayin’.

    • Neil F. AGWD October 26, 2009 at 7:15 am #

Why do you do that Rob? You try to insult me but it’s so ridiculous that I just laugh. Stuck in the 15th century? Let’s see, I repair refrigerators and other refrigerated appliances. I’m pretty sure they didn’t have those back then. I drive a car, and a work van, and I use a computer. Two computers actually. My personal home computer, and my work computer. I have a cell phone with a GPS navigator, I have a Tom Tom GPS for my car, I have GPS on my work computer to find the places I need to go work on appliances. In my home I have an oven, a microwave, a refrigerator, and a sink with running water. In my bathroom I have another sink, a shower, and a toilet. All have running water. In my basement there is a washer and dryer, another sink, a furnace and a water heater. Outside I have a lawn mower, and a snow thrower. Sounds a lot like modern living to me. I don’t own any weapons, but if I did it would not be a sword. It would be a handgun, or a shotgun. Oh, and I have electric light bulbs too.
My point is that none of these things were even in existance back then, exept for some plubming technology but it was rare and not common in most residences as it is today.
      15th century? Not!!!!!

I get it Rob: Did you get I was answering absurdity with absurdity?

    • Neil F. AGWD October 26, 2009 at 11:51 pm #

Actually, my post after that was censored because you get my Irish up. And you are right. That was a rant. I apologize for getting personal.

  21. Rob N. Hood October 26, 2009 at 9:48 am #

Neil you are so concrete in your thinking you apparently cannot comprehend an abstract concept. But that is the essence of your problem and those who think like you do. You are black and white thinkers, concrete and unable to grasp subtle and abstract ideas. So I will spell it out for you: I was referring to your mind-set, your personal philosophy about the world and problem-solving. I of course was not referring to anything else but that. Oh well. And if you think my insults are silly, what do you make of Pauly Boy’s? Hmmm. I like dogs too, so even in that way it’s silly. Now if he had referred to me as a skunk, well, that would make more sense, but sense is not one of your stong points is it?

    • Neil F. AGWD October 27, 2009 at 12:32 am #

I just apologized for getting personal. I will avoid that in the future. I would appreciate it if you would too. Take this post I’m responding to. I think that is a little too personal. Don’t you? I mean, all you know about me is what you see here. Just because I disagree with you a lot does not mean that I can’t comprehend abstract concepts, or grasp subtle and abstract ideas. Even after everything I have said about myself here, you know virtually nothing about me. As I know virtually nothing about you.
I do know that you rub me the wrong way. I think your additude is one of arrogance. You seem to believe that you are smarter than everyone, and I don’t like that in anybody. The way you present your beliefs is in a manner that suggests that anyone who disagrees with you is a stupid moron. Can you see why I have little respect for that?
If you would be a little more respectful when you post things, I wouldn’t have half the problem with you that I do. So when you post, if you just say “this is what I think”, and then say what you think, and not say “this is what I think and this is what you should think too, and if you disagree then you have no sense, and can’t grasp subtle and abstract ideas, you idiot”.
Do you understand my point here?

Some reasons why I feel more mainsteam:

“Only 20 percent of adults identify themselves as Republicans” these days; and “just 19 percent express confidence in the Republicans in Congress to [‘make the right decisions’ about the nation’s future]; and, going even deeper into the numbers, as the Politico did, “A staggering 83 percent of all independents” — now the largest voting population in American politics — “said they don’t trust Republicans to make the right decisions.”

Of course things can change and probably will. I just wanted to point out some data that backs me up on what I said.

Read the polls. 40+ percent conservative, 26% liberal .

  24. Rob N. Hood October 29, 2009 at 9:02 am #

You been smokin’ somethin’ again. Or watching that fictional TeeVee show Fox News.

  25. Paul Wenum October 29, 2009 at 8:18 pm #

No I watch the Cartoons on MSNBC!!! I love Keith Overbite!!, or what’s that guys name that when he speaks about Obama “gets a chill up his leg”?? Now that is Cartoons at it’s best! Later, Robbie Boy.

So it’s somehow Un-American, or wrong to be excited about your President? Since when? It wasn’t long ago, for 8 long years to be exact, I had to live with Bush worship. And then there’s Saint Ronnie- you people still drool wihen you talk about him. You are such a hypocrite.

  27. paul wenum October 30, 2009 at 10:06 pm #

I never got, as a “journalist,” “chills up my leg.” To me that is sick. Inspiration by Reagan, reality by Bush after 911, but to liken our President as a savior” like “Sting” said yesterday, I have a problem. And by the way, Obama is our President. I, simply as an American, do not believe in what he believes in or is trying to push through congress/senate. Simple as that. Is there a problem with that? It is my OPINION. Isn’t that the American way, or has something changed???

  28. Rob N. Hood October 31, 2009 at 8:33 am #

No, genuine disagreement on policy is fine of course. I’ve never said it wasn’t, although during the Bush administration they attempted to silence that sort of thing, which was unbelievable but pretty normal crap for Bush. It’s the irrational extreme hatred and paranoia that is frightening. And you know what I mean, so don’t play dumb about it. You are probably one step away from being a part of that group. JFK had a similar positive effect on people. Some leaders have that special talent when speaking, to inspire… etc. To distrust or hate a President for that reason is simply childish, irrational, and biased. You can disagree with him, but to exaggerate his effect on people is a dishonest way of undermining the guy for no good reason, other than you people would hate and come up with all sorts of superficial reasons to disparage and sow discontent for a Democrat. You all did the same thing to Clinton.

Explain the censure of Fox news! Give me, as well as all others, a written/exploratory explanation based upon what the “mainstream media” has let us know. I hope that you don’t have to check with the DNC to get your talking points, right Robbie Boy? Prove me wrong for once in my life. I note, you as well as others like the word “crap.” Nice word, I should teach my children that word. Nice. Will add to my vocabulary.

  30. Rob N. Hood November 1, 2009 at 10:08 am #

There’s no censure you hypocrite, it is simple criticism, such as you claim is a divine right for eveyone. He’s simply finally calling out Fox for what they really are, that’s all. About time too. And you can’t distinguish between censure and criticism, really? Or is this just another one of your hysterical reactions?

  31. Rob N. Hood November 2, 2009 at 5:03 pm #

Oh, and sorry about using the outrageous word “crap”, your Highness! I’ll try and be more careful in the future sir.

  32. paul wenum November 3, 2009 at 12:06 am #

Crap is a nice word if used wisely. Careful with your words now and in the future. I sense resentment?

  33. Rob N. Hood November 3, 2009 at 1:39 pm #

Gee, ya think? Who made you the PC police? You authoritarians are all the same. Seig Heil!

  34. paul wenum November 6, 2009 at 12:58 am #

I, as well as others, do not enjoy words that we do not speak at home. Very simple.
